I'm in the middle of a continents game on a large map with 18 civs, high oceans. Started on a continent with 5 other AIs and got a "game breaking" event about 10 turns in - free Shock promotion for my Axemen. Three of my neighbours disappeared shortly after that. 
Anyway, the scarcity of land has left all of the AIs in the 5-8 city range, making this a very easy game.
