> Diplomat = Emp.Napoleon

I want every thing Posted Here !!! ...

Feaurius III
Foreign Minister

Here's the first message we had from the Doughnuts:

Greetings to the people of MIA, from the people of Doughnutia. This
communique is just a quick advisory that a curragh bearing our flag
has sighted your fine city of Athens and approached, to open a dialog.
Our Foreign Minister is feverishly drafting our formal greeting and
commencement of diplomatic relations.

Sincerely, DaveShack
Doughnutia Turnplayer

Fe: Will this thread also contain discussion? Or just be a log of conversations?
Maybe we need an embassy thread (discussion) and a foreign library thread (log of all conversation) for each of our opponents? Or do you want to roll it all together in this thread?

Post your instructions, and I'll delete this question from my post. Thanks!

Ummm ... discussions here and then a separte log of diplomacy which our diplomats will start ...

I'm a bit overwealmed atm (and drunkish) ... could you check on diplomacy window which of our techs they already have (not listed as trade option) and the ones they require (listed)

Our Techs:
Bronze Working
Iron Working
Alphabet
The Wheel (in 6 turns)

Confirmed Doughnut Techs:
Pottery
Alphabet

Doughnut does NOT have:
B. Working
I. Working.

Doughnut MAY have:
IMO most likely: Warrior Code & Wheel (so they can get horseback ridding)

Edit: Why does Chamnix think they have writing?

Thanks ... should we go for tech trade?

> We give Bronze Working

> Pottery?
> Alphabet?
> Other?

>Straight Tech Swap?

>Ball in their court :wavey: ... dangle the Bronze in front of their noses ... and then ... what do you propose to give us for it???

What do you guys think ...

I say - dangle the bronze - but keep our mouthes shut about IW if we can. Why let them know we have it?

Ask them what they'd like to trade - and see how much they reveal.

Check how long it takes us to research each tech in F6 - anything that takes less time now than it did last turn, Doughnut must have. Anything that takes the same amount of time, they do not have. I believe they have writing and pottery, but nothing else available for trade.

I doubt they will give up writing at any price until they safely have the Philosophy free tech claimed. The question is, are we willing to trade pottery for bronze working? I think not - I don't think we will be building granaries anytime soon considering all our more pressing needs, and I see no reason to give them the ability to build a unit that has defense unless we are getting something significant in return. I would think if they want Bronze from us, then we would need Pottery +1 gpt at least.

Bare in mind that if they are alligned with KISS they may have tech swapped ... therefore we should use the tech dangle method of trading ...

We have Bronze ... what you want to give us? ... do the same with KISS and see how they react ... if they seem to be working together ... well ... we use that against them ...

I believe that if my scenario is correct then KISS made a big mistake in contacting us prior to having turn ...

Hypothetical: Last turn Pottery was going to take n turns.

This turn (after 2 contacts) pottery will take n-x turns

Is there any way to tell which of the two (or both) have pottery?

This could be very important right now.

we could buy wiriting an rpomise not to research philosophy before they have, or with their approval- whichever comes first.

I like your approach, Ybbor, but I must ask: If they told us that inexchange for steel they promised not to research motorized transport before us, would you trust them?

I think I'd like to see a little collateral against that.

well, we can submit a copy of said agreement to the game admins, which mean they can all rule 4.1 & 4.2 out

Spoiler rules :
.1 - Official Treaties

All in-game treaties can be submitted to the game staff for an official record. All teams in the treaty must confirm the exact wording with the game staff for the treaty to be officially recorded.

4.2 - Distribution of Treaties

All official treaties will be kept private. The only exception to this is where a team in a treaty asks the game staff to send a copy of the treaty to another team.

Example:
• Team A and Team B have a treaty, which they submit to the game staff for the official record.
• Team A believes that Team B has broken their treaty, and tell Team C of this.
• Team B believes they did nothing wrong and tells Team C this.
• Team A or Team B can ask the game staff to send a copy of the official treaty to Team C.
• Team C can now make an informed decision on who they believe.

thus we tell them our honor would otherwise be ruined

I don't think there is a way - fortunately, we met them one turn apart, so at the last save, we learned the Iroquois have pottery and writing, and when we receive the next save, we will discover what the Celts have. From this point on, we will be able to tell when someone researches something, and we can tell how many civs completed it based on how much the price drops by, but we will not be able to tell who it was if only one completes it.

Chamnix:
Anything that takes the same amount of time, they do not have. I believe they have writing and pottery, but nothing else available for trade.

So your saying that the reduction in tech costs only applies to civs you've met? I thought this was a global thing = why I was so slow to get what you're saying.

With this new insight - we also gain a wonderful look into the mindset of team Doughnut!

If I were them – I would have gone straight for horsemanship. The fact that they didn’t tells us they must not be too eager to get their UU – ie – they’re not in an aggressive mood.

I recommend our diplomat looks for subtle ways to keep them away from Horseback riding – (like, “how about we work on masonry, and you guys get C. Burial, then we trade?”)
The longer they don’t get their UU – the longer we have to prepare adequate defenses, and pull ahead in tech and money.
