I have been reading this forum and see all these stories about whooping the computers on monarch, people playing deity, etc.

Frnakly I have a hard time playing WARLORD!

Would someone be so kind as to upload about 5 saved games, saved at maybe at 3000bc, 1000bc, all the way up to 1000 AD or so?

I would appreciate it, I just want to see what other peoples' games look like.

Rosicrucian:

Maybe PMing specific people you have read posts from that state how they whipped the AI on Deity would be of better service to you.

(Note to mods: I would have used my own advice and PMed Rosicrucian, but no PM icon was by his name :))

I could post some saves for you but I can only do well up to about regent level. If this would help just post a reply. Above regent level I have not been able to get a strategy that keeps the AI from either being too agressive or demanding every tech I have while they are more advanced than me. I love warlord level in early game because its a neck to neck race but late game I take off and leave them in the dust.

That would definitely help, thanks. I just want to get a look at what other people play like. Loading a game up right at the end gives me no feel for how they play, but if I had a few saved games in the early years it would be wonderful.

Thanks a lot!!

edit:

Divis - I'm not just looking for Deity games, it's any game above warlord or chieftain. Really I just want to see how others play :)

One other thing you can do, is check out the Stories and Tales Forum!

There's a bunch of succession games going on there. These are games where Player A takes a round (5 - 20 turns), passes the saved game to Player B, who takes his round and passes the saved game to Player C, etc. Most of these post screenshots of the game in progress, and each player posts the results of his round, usually in a turn-by-turn format, so you can see what they did, and usually why.

I have followed many of these games for good effect in my own playing.

Warlord is a good level if you want to control the key wonders. Brutal is right, the late game is a runaway for the human, but the early game is nice. If you don't care who builds the wonders, then Regent is also a very comfortable level. Again, expect the late game to be easy.

Above Regent it's more of a wargame, where your best strategy might be to let the AI do the building while you do the taking. Think of yourself as Attila the Hun, and send your mounted fighters out to gather booty and sack anything they can't hold. They will need to fight dirty. Being nice carries no honor, just misery.

I saw this thread and came here to suggest the same as Padma.

Succession Games are very well logged, so you can learn a lot with them. You can learn even more playing it. And there are lots of uploaded games there.

Most games are being played at Regent level (even AI without bonus). I believe there's one game going on on Monarch level, and there must be other ones already finished. It might be good to look for those.

As soon as I finish my regent German succession, I intend to start a monarch succession as I believe it's time to rise a level.

Here's the link to the Civ3 - Stories & Tales forum.

Thanks very much. I think the succession games will be a great resource - had no idea they even existed.

So I take it the basic premise is, someone plays X turns, someone else plays X, etc? How do you get in queue? Do people care, in general, if newbs/less-than-stellars play, or should we create our own?

What a great idea!!! :D

How do you get in queue? Most of these games, the leader?/moderator? starts the game, and then announces it and takes the first 3 - 6 people who want to join. There are also a couple going on right now where the first person to grab the latest save gets to play! There have been a few explicitly for newbies, but you can always start your own!

Well here are a few saves from a regent game im playing. Man its is a tough one. I have standard settings on the map. I dont have civs linked. I dont like playing regent with full compliment of civs because it gets way too cramped for room but I did it anyways. I have a secure foot hold and a few odd towns that you will later understand their placement. Mainly trying to keep peace until I get my Elephants and can rain heck down on them. Money is a big problem and these guys are research 2X my pace but I have a much higher culture rating than all of them which will make it easier to keep cities I take. I can not stress how important culture is to keeping cities from flippin. If you have a lower culture rating you better just raze them as you go. I have secured silks, dyes, spices, and wine. Have iron (barely) and horses. I believe the roman is going to be my first victum he has been annoyed and cautious with me the hole time. The egyptian is my best ally. A little gold, some lux's, and advances and he will follow my lead. Hope this helps.

Here a little after turn of century. Almost forgot to save game around this point :crazyeyes Guess I was really getting into it.

This is the last one before I quit tonight. It is around 560 ad Most of us have republic now which means no more pop rushing units for the AI. Ever wonder how they get them twenty archer armies? I watch a town size 6 become size 1 in about 5 turns once. Thats getting a little crazy.

Thanks Brutal, it will be nice to see how another player plays. :D

Well things have not been like I had planed but are moving along well. I took one roman town over by culture but it was one I was planning to destroy  But that was okay. The english and roman found their way to peace and I was still far from my elephants. I cut my research down to nothing and made lots of cash to buy the techs I wanted from the Egyptian. He has been a good friend so far sure hate to have to remove him from my continent. I got lucky with the roman in that I stole that one source of iron from him so he had no legions:D After the one town converted on me I felt secure enough to weild my sword. I built several swordsmen and stationed them outside two towns. As I approached on town its culture grew and the roman complained about me in his boards so I declared war. Silly me. He had plenty of archers and one town was a back and forth battle so I razed it and replaced it with my own. Its a town on the west side with all the dies. The jungle clearing is progressing rather quickly. Hopefully lots of coal to be found. After I finished the roman I looked at the map and said you know this greek has got a really far flung empire. There is no way he can defend this mess. So I proceeded to tidy up the map a bit. It was a costly war those Hoplites are rough on swordsmen. I use 4 swordsmen / Hoplite minimum before attacking. Most towns have 2 but big towns have 3 so that = 12 swordsmen. I have had 3 great leaders appear and thanks to the lighthouse I got the all important Golden age at just the right time with my war with the greek. Two leaders have bought me wonders. Sistine Chapel and Sun Tuz. The third is in an army full of elephants. Now I can build the heroic epic and later the military acad. As I was quitiing my game I looked at the map and the date of the game and have come to realized it would be a shame to leave the english who have not been very cooperative alone. So they will be my next victum after I get defenses set back up. I have a passage agreement with them but oh well it happens. They have about 7 towns I believe so they shouldnt be too hard to get rid of at this point. I need one more great leader for that all important forbidden palace anyways. About 50% of my economy is corruption right now and that is with a republic so I have to get a handle on that soon. The sooner the better. Oh yea one more comment still no city flips :) My culture has been sufficient enough to keep them from switching sides :) Most the greek towns had only 4 resistors and were out of resistance in one turn :D

Well things have shaped up badly for this game. Im doing fine but I have a very very big problem with the Aztecs whom I found on one turn and the next turn had destroyed the the russians. Whats the problem you ask well he is big very big. This war left him alone on a very big land mass. I finished the english off not much of a problem and never had to leave my republic to do it. If the egyptian keeps completing wonders 4/5 turns before I get them done he is going to have a very rough time with me here soon. I hate loosing all those shields. He has Magellans and Adam Smiths trading company. The good news is I have J.S. Bach's and WLTK days in almost all my towns. I got my FP built and man what a diff. I went from +61 gold/turn to +249/turn and am now researching advances at the rate of 4 turns/advance. I finally me the german who is no threat what so ever. My only problem now is deciding how to win this game. A space race would be really close. Diplomatic is not possible with the size that the aztec is I wouldnt have enough votes or it would be too close to call. It looks like I will have to try and knock the aztec down a notch or two. I will probably wait to late game to do it. I can reach his capital with bombers from the sea and can knock out all the roads to it. Then I might have a chance at him. So what do you all think?
