okay I'm stupid - how do I save??

I just bought CiV for my new computer build, and I'm pretty happy so far. Nonetheless, there's one tiny issue I'm having: I can't save my games!

In game I bring up the save menu, type the save game name, and hit 'Save.' I hear the little clicky noise but the save menu just stays open and it doesn't appear to have saved anything. If I check the 'Steam Cloud' circle in the upper right of the save menu, I then appear to be able to successfully save. It also looks like I can successfully bring up the game menu and do a 'Quick save.' Still, I'd like to save games locally in my desired file location with my desired name.

I know I'm just missing some glaringly obvious thing, so I'm embarassed to bring this up here, but I've got to ask someone. I've still got the one-more-turn monkey on my back, but it doesn't keep me going all night long like it did when I was a whipper snapper!
If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong here, I'd love some advice!

I think I have read somewhere that if you once have chosen to save the game in the Steam Cloud, you can't save the game locally (other than quick, auto).

Oh wow, thanks! Seems weird that they made it so circuitous, but it works! Sorry for not starting this in the proper forum.
