Old Games with little requirements

You didn't tell us what kind of games your friend liked. There are lots of old RPGs that can be downloaded from a certain abandonware site...

Well he likes military games, he likes pilot games more, but anything military, so Red Alert probably works. Stuff like that, not really the shoot-em-ups. More along RTS lines and that kinda stuff. Stuff that lasts, not just play it once and you're done.

Who acutally owns an arcade machine?

Some supermarket shop owners still have them, the guy who owns the fish and chip shop near the station where i live does. the arcade machine has street fighter on it.

I don't know if Half-Life would run on that.

But there are tons of good games that will. The original Command and Conquer is a blast. If he likes military games, he'll probably love Panzer General 2, which should run okay with it. Civ2 is a classic. Warcraft 2 is also fun.

What's Panzer General 2 like, and what about the original not the second?

I haven't played the original.

The second is a hex-based war game, obviously set in WW2. It's very easy to learn for a war game, and can be very challenging. By far my favorite campaign is the German Blitzkrieg. You start out in the Spanish Civil War, and if you do well enough, you can invade Britain and even the United States. It's not for realism freaks, it's more focused on fun.

Let's not forget the X-Com games UFO or it's sequel Terror from the Deep, two of the finest games ever written.

Ironically, I have the original, but I've only played a demo for the second.

Concept for both is about the same. There's probably just more missions and better graphics in the second one. Also, in PzG I, you start in Poland, not Spain.

If your friend likes military games the old Steel Panthers games will run on old machines and are a bit more realistic than Panzer General, there are three fan made updated versions that are available free, do a Google search on SPWAW (remake of Steel Panthers 3) and SPWW2 (the same people do Steel Panthers:Modern Battle Tank, both use the Steel Panthers 2 engine).

Flight sims I enjoyed on my old P100 include Hind (Russian helicopters), Apache Longbow (American helicopters), 1942:Pacific Air War and US Navy Fighters.

the original Age of Empires game came free with a box of Nutrigrain cereal. most people used to just buy the cereal for the game.

I know about downloading illegaly and stuff but is freeware stuff legal?

free ware is legal as it is no longer copyrighted

that's why it's called freeware! same as abondonware, but that can also mean the company went bankrupt...

there was a really good website but it closed down, try fields of glory(great game!)
