Old World Quick Questions and answers (and FAQ)

1. What happens if I found a family seat with Clerics (the family that give a religion upon founding) but all religions have already been founded? An unlikely situation to be sure, but I think it could in theory happen?

You will just lose out on the bonus - so nothing special will happen after founding.

2. Is there a way to tell units to heal until fully healed, or must the player click 'heal' every turn?

You have to keep clicking as it stands now.

3. Say I am Rome and I marry a Carthaginian. My child will be 50% Carthaginian. If they then marry another Carthaginian, their child will be 75% and so on. Does this have any effect other than the "heir/leader is Carthaginian" bonus relation?

It plays into opinion in various ways. There are the positive heir/leader/spouse bonuses, but also those part-Carthaginian characters will dislike you if you go to war with Carthage. Then there are some events that trigger if you have a foreign-ethnicity character, but that goes for a lot of things in OW, that they trigger events.

4. Related to the above, is it ever worth marrying into a tribe? It always seems better to marry into a family for the relation bonus or a foreign power to secure a border.

I consider tribes to be the less useful of the three marriage options, but sometimes it's worth it. At higher difficulties, you can definitely end up being very pressured by a tribe, and marriage can be a good way to secure peace. If you want an alliance with a tribe, you need to make them happy, so marriage is an integral part of that.

Is there any obvious way to see if a city has city walls/moat, including your own?

Also is there any place where you can see which leadertypes love and hate each other? They all have one antagonist... or?

They are represented graphically on the map although that can be hard to see at a glance. Here a close up of a city with walls, moat and towers :

In your cities they appear as in the completed projects icons just as any other projects (three leftmost icons in this screenshot):

You can see that in the description of each archetype in the game encyclopedia:

(here : -60 opinion of Hero characters for Builders)

or in the tooltip while hovering any archetype:

@Dale shoudn't this be avoided that a romantic cannot be also a bitter? (and so on)

So Queen Marcia was bitter, and then received romantic via event? Yeah probably. I'll let the event writer know.

I'm trying to figure out if exploration is worth it. How much do units cost extra outside borders?

Does that mean outside any borders or do other family cities count as outside?

If a terrain tile with a specialist is razed, does it kill the specialist?
not on being pillaged, but if the improvement is destroyed the specialist disappear (it becomes a citizen again)

outside borders means outside national borders. You can check unit maintenance costs in their expanded tooltip.

Can anyone tell me what the combat formula is? Aka how much damage you would expect a unit with X Attack vs Y defense to do?

The damage formula is simple, it's just 6 * (attacker strength / defender strength). So with equal strength units you deal 6 HP of damage, and need four blows to kill the enemy.

Thank you!

Follow up question, is there a screen that will let me see a list of all the family opinions, and religious opinions? I manage to find it through piecemail info, is it available all together somewhere?

The family tab (three human shapes in the top right part) lists all families and religions.

What do you think the average difficulty level or level most people will play is?

I can tell you that quite specifically from our analytics.
