Heh! i noticed that too.. almost subconcious. wasnt sure if i heard it differently or the blast ocurred and i saw it first.

I used to play Civ for 10+ hours everyday, but now that schools started. I have had to cut back all the way to only like 1-2 hours per day. I'm having withdrawls as we speak :)

This happened to me alot, and I played Civ for years. I remember the "one more turn" thing, like it was yesterday.

Hey....It WAS yesterday!

'One more turn' :)
- leads to
'Just a minute' :mischief:
- follows with
'Where did that Impi come from'
- which lives with
'But the Zulu have declared on me'
- inevitable tied to
'Ill just take this city' :rocket:
- always comes with
'**** its 4:00am !!!!!!!!!'
- end result of
Cold stares when getting into bed :spank:

Glancing over at my writing pad at work I see a freehand sketch I have made of my current game and the route I will be taking to crush the Japanese.

Addicted, definitely.

Yeah, I'm thinking of opening up a CA chapter in my town. Too often I've intended to just "play around a little bit", only to find myself involved in a bitter war against those who make demands of me. ;)

is it me or are France always doing this.....i.e. ..stabbing people in the back??

every game i have played with France they always do sneeky attacks upon me! RUDE!!!

This brings me back to the days of when I finally got my copy of Civ1.

Y'see, I was homeless when I first played Civ. I was crashing at a friends house, and he had this on his 'puter. I was hooked.

Finally, about two years later, I had found a copy of Civ1 cheap, and bought it. But I didn't have a computer! No worrries. . . I was living near the University of Kansas at the time, I would go up there and play on their 'puters.

This is how my Weekends went: Friday: Get up around 10am. Go up to the computer center, and play until 3 or four o'clock. Go to work. Work until midnight, 1am. Go back to the computer center, pick up where I left off. Play until 8 in the morning. Go back to work. WOrk until 4:00. Go back up to the computer center, play until 2 or 3 am. Go get a couple hours sleep. Go back to work until 4. Go home and crash. Wake up about 2 or 3 in the morning, back up to the CC and play some more until I had to be where ever I needed to be.

Ah, those were the days. . .

I know that just too well, I had serious troubles with my gf for staying up all night and ignoring her (did I? :) ) when I made a career step a few years ago, I had to ban myself from playing, I took the Civ2 and Tot CDs into a cupboard and left the key at a friend. maybe I have serious problems, nahh, it is only a game ;)

:hmm:
... and if it sounds like a miss, I guess you're guiding the shell to the target by magic moon-singing, hehe. :D

(I would try that with my voice, but I'm sure that would backfire on me: I would just be the end point of the ballistic track of my flatmate's shoe)

The first week after I bought Civ a played ALL DAY LONG. I got up played a little bit, did breakfast, played civ, did lunch, play civ, did dinner, played civ until 3:00 a.m.
I kept dooing this for a whole week until I had to stop because I got a back-ache.
I was able to play all day long because it was during summer vacations :D

Civ can be a very dangerous game. I've had back aches, neck aches, and the most annoying clicking finger aches. I hate it when I have to use my middle finger to click because my index finger is too tired to go on civving ;)

and does anyboday know the "closed eyes" syndrome? you lie in bed after 8 hours playing and you still see your game, but maybe it is just my insane mind ;)

Definetely, when I close my eyes I see Civ3.

This also applies to other games when I play them too much. But I don't play any game nearly as much as Civ3 ;)

Civ3 has been burned into my mind heh.

that comforts me :). but Civ is tatooed on my brain as well after more than a decade of playing.

Top:
While sleeping, you see civ
On your way to work, you mentally summarize what happened during the night.
While working, you draw sketches of the next battle plan, while a client of yours just holds on the other end of the phone line, because you had a wonderful sudden civ idea that you think will make the difference.
On your way back home, you mentally review your plan, and make some final changes.
On arriving home, you almost ignore everyone there, and head to your PC.
While playing, you throw away your plan, and move on with an improvised one, as new "events" have happened (new wars, new peace treaties, etc.).
Then the "Just one last turn" virus comes into play, until the "No more turns or i want a divorce" antibiotic clears it off :spank:
Goto Top.

:)

Yeah, but JOMT is really getting critical if you think it WAS yesterday, but your calendar actually says today.

Maybe we should open a anti-stress/RSI forum, where we can help addicts with hints & tips to prevent (at least make an attempt to prevent ;) ) the 'one more turn' syndrom and fisical injury.

What do you all think?

I've had back-aches too from playing too much. What is that all about?

Poor posture in a chair. When I had that old dinner table chair, it was murder. Ah, the things I do for Civ.

I think you're right. When I sat in a better computer chair, I felt a little better. I hurt my elbows and back by playing on a laptop in a recliner. I was in pain for a few days, but it was worth it. I got to crush Egypt, Japan, and China all in one day. :) Who here has had severe eye strain?

I watched a football match on TV the other day (whilst playing civ3) and found myself considering an area of the pitch an excellent place to found a city....

honestly, I don't know how I find time to post on these forums!

Back-aches, eye strain etc - but the doctor just suggests a couple of days off work....(to play civ3 even more and make my back and eyes even worse!)
