How in hell's name do you load people onto boats? I can't do it from a city or the shoreline. I have tried simply telling my people to go onto the shore square where the boat exists but it gives me the red circle telling me they can't go there. I don't see any special "LOAD" buttons either. Please help me and be excruciatingly specific in your instructions if possible because I feel like I have exhausted all options.

I am using a Caravel and a Frigate and cannot get infantry or settlers on either one of them.

I just used right click to drag and drop the unit onto the boat as a movement.

I haven't had any problems. Are you sure you aren't trying to load a workboat? I also think that caravels can only hold certain units, but I'm not sure.

what type of boat are you using? one of the early ones (caravel or galley, i forget) will only carry certain types of units ... scouts, explorers, great people, i forget if even settlers can get on them, i don't think any combat-types can. that may be the issue.

A settler or a combat unit cannot get onto a Caveral. It's to prevent you from colonize the world the cheap way, since Cavarel is available pretty early and can sail into the deep ocean as opposed to Galley.

For infantry loading, use galley, galleon or transports. Carvels are for spy/prophet/missionary.

I think you have to use the right boat for the unit you're loading up. Certain boats only allow certain units. That could be the problem.

Well, your problem might be that neither a caravel nor a frigate can carry infantry. Caravels can carry scouts/missionaries/great people, and frigates are pure military vessels. Try Galleons instead.
