I suppose I should be grateful but my wife wants to see what all the fuss is about, what is keeping me up to 4/5am some nights and taking up some of my free time. Maybe we gain another addict :),

So it is down to Warlord I guess  and a coop Hotseat in store this evening (my rivetting Emperor Rise of Rome as the Carthaginians will have to wait). I know her style from RON, get every single tech, expand like crazy, be nice but then build a massive army for an blitz at the end (so I guess my job is to prevent the AI from the UN and building spaceships while letting her win :-) )

And I thought the Swiss (she is Swiss) were neutral

Anyone else play with their partners? and what maps, styles etc?

It's so nice to have two computers in the house, isn't it?:) I wish I have two computers in the house too. My husband doesn't play Civ! I have tried to convert him, but failed everytime. The more I try, the more he resists. Anyway, having two computers in the house would be nice; at least he can play Chess or something while I'm playing Civ.

my dad allways plays but he takes hours!

I try to convert my Father, but he doesn't have the patience he says. I mean when I get retired I'm still looking forward to play civ (10?)

WOOHOO! Another lady ready to join in the games! Gotta love it! You go for it Ms. Zurichuk!

Actually this is pretty much how I got hooked on civ! Way back in 1991 with civI. Hubby was playing it constantly, and I saw VERY little of him. After much complaining that he was playing to much, and then finally realizing that he wasn't going to give up his "civ adiction" I decided.... "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"

So, once the kids were in bed for the night, we'd get a game going. Sometimes he would sit at the keyboard, sometimes I would (long before "Hot Seat", and multiplayer actually existed. We would play as "dual rulers" of one civ). But we would both sit and play the game together. And man did we kick butt! He watched things that I didn't pay much attention to, and visa versa.

Ultimately he gave up on civ (work was demanding more of him, so he had less time). And little by little he gave it up completely.

As for right now....Well, I've been trying my hardest to get the hubby to play a game or two with me. I'll keep "nagging" and pray for the best :)

Now, if we were to start playing I would imagine that we would go with "hot seat" (of course) Start with large or huge maps (we both like lots of land) and for the first little while "watch" each other's moves, more for the purpose of "teaching" the hubby how to play. And I imagine go from there, moving up slowly. :)

Well,

you can kiss goodbye to hot dinners, ironed shirts and sex :D

I was surprised when I walked into the computer room a few months ago and my wife was trying it out. She was in roughly 200AD, but had just been moving around exploring with her settler and worker. Amazingly no barbarians or other civs had destroyed her!

It was very funny, but since then I took the time to show her the ropes and now she loves the game.

I will not allow anyone else in my household to try my Civilization III game. I play it every day, for at least 3 hours. I love it, and I cannot let anybody take my Civilization time away from me.

I tried to get my girlfriend interested in Civ3, but she has thwarted every one of my attempts. We have come up with a solution to our problem. I play Civ and she get to sing kareoke (sp?).

Yeah I made several attempts to get my girl to play as well...we have monumental fights over this game. I found her playing the game one day after coming in from work and got really excited. I started talking to her about strategy and how to win but as it turned out it was only a token effort on her part...sigh. So we're back to fighten.

can be fun, but I strongly recommed a cooperative game, otherwise trouble waits for you...

Speaking from experience, Ted? ;)

My wife likes to play to, we will play Hotseat and I will find myself protecting her and giving her stuff for free in exchange for in-game services.... I pretend she's Cleopatra and I'm ... Oh, wait.. nevermind, too much information... ;)

Ted

never got the first 2 anyway :(

---------------------------------

we played hotseat, she had a great start while i was stuck in some mountains, she has already attacked the Japanese for settling near her territory and has just taken out their capital, more balls than me I think, can i say that here?

anyway I don't know if the addiction will set in, she does want to finish the game but she prefers RON at the moment but I would say she would settle in at the regent level very quickly if she persisted

I do have 2 computers set up and have civ installed on both but I cannot get the LAN option to work, so hotseat it was, I don't think I've converted her but as the first game goes on, who knows?

Sounds very similar, however at least she doesn't complain (yet), anyway i often play until i'm civved out and then can easily take a few weeks break, trouble is with the new conquests and hopefully a new patch i probably won't be civved out until the new year at least.

Luckily she doesn't play Civ but she does like adventure games. She's playing Uru at the moment and mealtimes have slipped somewhat :)

Sounds like you guys are having a lot of fun.

I tried to get my wife to play Civ2 way back when. She played half a game and then lost interest. Been trying to get her to try Civ3 but no luck. :(
