Once they are furious...

Yes, the Lousiana Purchase, the "Alaskan Icebox" and all - but those were vast territories, something different. The Lousiana Purchase was $20 million from the French; Alaska was from Russia for $7.1 milion, about 2 cents an acre. All cities AFAIK have been taken by war - I think...

How about Solomon paying Hiram, King of Tyre, with 20 cities for timber and gold used to build the Temple and Palace in Jerusalem?

I just played a game where everyone stayed furious at me for the final thousand years. I was France and I did get an MPP from the Aztecs but at a rate of 400+ gold a turn; they were briefly only annoyed at me during our mutual fight against Persia but got furious again as soon as I defeated our evil nukular weapon developing foe...

It is possible to turn them around, but the two I have found to be particularly hard to is the Iriquois and Zulus.

I had an interesting occurance with this when I was playing against Persia. I declared war and attacked Russia. The Persians had an MPP with Russia and caused them to declare war on me. They immediately went from gracious to furious with me. Since Persia was on another continent I decided not to attack them. Meanwhile, Russian cities fell by the might of the US forces. After five turns, I parleyed with the Persian Ambassador achieving not only a peace treaty but also a MPP. The next turn saw the Rusians at war with the Persians and the Persians have been Graciious with me since then. :D
