Ho ho ho ... playing on noble difficulty on the Earth Scenario, I had around 4-5 tanks. When planning an offensive, I started moving my units into position and lloked for my tanks in a city where I had parked them, but they were gone .... ?
So, I brought up the unit advisor and he reported thme in 4 postions ... but upon zooming in on any of these, there were no tanks to be seen inside the cities identified. The tanks were gone ...

. A guess of mine would be that you gave them sentry or something and forgot about it
