Maybe I am in the wrong site but this is my problem.
In OCC you gift all advances, right? So the other guys are there with you. When I build Apollo it still takes about 20 goes to build the spaceship. But the big guys take about 4 goes.
I mean, in Smash's game - see Size 4 OCC thread - what the hell were the opposition doing between 1826 and 1864?
How do you get over this?

I only gift up to Combustion.Iffy on that one as the ai will research Flight killing your Collosus before you are ready sometimes. Its kind of a judgement call with advanced techs.I gift tech fairly liberally(saving key wonder tech until wonder is secure) early, then shut the gift stream right off.Usually around Automobile.Superhighways usually keeps 2 turns per tech until Computers and a research lab.

Most of my occ games the ai never even starts building a spaceship.

It takes 25 turns to build and launch 15-3-3-1-1-1 spaceship.1 turn for Apollo.

I don't gift advances, I just fortify my base air-tight. Then I expand after I get to future tech. It works.

There is one thing that kills me when I play OCC, its called bordem..

One turn for Apollo? I assume you buy it? The worst thing about OCC is you cant use caravans to help build wonders.

Pardon? Not use caravans? All my Wonders after Colossus are built in one turn using caravans?
Bored, no,no,no.
At present am using the world which is a bit of a cheat. But it is fun using a trireme plus non horseman around the north islands to open huts. Is the finish I can't quite manage.

How can you use caravans for wonder building in OCC? I thought all caravans had to be supported by a different city in order to be used by the Wonder-building city.

You can use your own city's (food) caravans on wonder production full value, and on spaceship parts half value. You stoock up on them when not buliding wonders or the other minimum needed city improments. I am mot vey liberal in gifting advances. My lastt OCC games ended in 1920 when a flod, 30+, English tanks surged over my city.

Hopefully,at construction of spaceship time, there is a wonder still available. You set the city to the wonder.Run your freight/caravan in and "help build wonder" then switch off to a spaceship part. There is NO penalty switching from wonder to a SS part.Or vice versa. That way each freight/caravan is 50 sheilds of SS part. You can switch back and forth also.

ie-run 1 freight for a wonder,switch to structural-buy it,switch back to wonder,run another freight or 2-then buy component.Filling a 300 sheild wonder leaves 20 sheilds for Modules

I'm sorry....I couldn't resist.

I haven't tried OCC before so I can't comment.

OK! OK! But we still love you Mr Moderator.

Seriously, I reckon it's good for jaded appetites.

I've never tried OCC either.

Two questions:

1. Do you usually build the UN as an OCC player? To pacify those civs who ask for (and don't get) techs like space flight?

2. How do you control which techs to give the other civs? In my experience, they ask for one, and you can either give them that one or the one other specifically mentioned in the dialog box. I wish you could pick and choose from ALL your techs, but you can't (or so it seems).
