The attached "oogieworld" map is my solution to many of the problems/frustrations I encountered with both the giant world map(s) and the automatically generated CIV3 maps.

Problems/Frustrations:
1. Games were just too long on the giant (e.g., marla's)world maps.
2. Time between turns was 15-20 minutes on a Pentium 3 from 1800 onward on world maps.
3. On a giant world map, by ~AD1800 the number of effective world powers was usually down to 8 anyhow.
4. On Tiny maps, the game could end prior to any civ getting into the modern era.
5. On the automatically generated small maps, AI civs would quickly eliminate each other such that the 6 soon became 4 and then 3. Thus, the backward technology problem occurred on a slightly larger map. In addition, there wasn't much diplomacy or strategy with only two remaining civs.

Introducing Oogieworld!!

Oogieworld_001 consists of 8 civilizations of your choice on a small map consisting of 8 similarly sized continents with numerous islands. Each civilization has all the resources except when it comes to luxuries. There are 8 luxury resources. Each continent has six of one type with two others located on an island distant from that continent. Each capital is on the coast and on a river so that you can build Hoover Dam. Each continent has one large and one small river. Barbarians are set on raging … but all continents have the same numbers of barbarian encampments and goody huts.

The result: Your civilization progresses alone until you develop mapmaking/galleys. Then civilizations interact as usual. .However, the AI civilizations do not wipe each other out early. Techs develop rapidly. And wars are infrequent early on. Wonders are very evenly dispersed. And you can play from whichever starting point you are assigned by the CIV3 program.

I recomment trying Oogieworld on Regent level before you try in on Monarch or higher because the AI is very good at rapidly developing their continents and you cannot attack very early.

Overall, I think you will enjoy oogieworld as a means of getting a lot out of CIV3 without killing yourself in a giant world game.

Kindest regards,

Oogie

Hi. I don't know how to generate an image of the bic file. If you know how to, please advise me. Or else you can download the *.bic file and post an image for me on this thread.

Thanks!
