Open Succesion Game-Regent China

@Conqueror: Hiring entertainers in the early game is usually a bad idea in allmost all situations (there are rare instances where it makes sense; like if hiring one entertainer in one town lets you lower lux slider by one and hence save a lot of money).

In this case you are hiring entertainers in two cities Beijing and Shanghai. Both are productive core cities. You are better off increasing lux and making those citizens work.

The ability to control the lux slider and avoiding riots is a key skill that you have to acquire to move up the skill levels. :)

the file for you. I forgot you couldn't attach files to the reply box at the bottom...

no one else? o.k. then its time for yoshi74 II. to take over the reign for the next decade over our glorius empire.

Take it now and start playing :)

Done my turns, here the log:

Watching over the land, make some observions:

1. Still no contact with the aztecs. We need contacts for trading.

2. Tsingtao is producing wealth ?!?!? We can produce wealth when we don't have anything usefull to build. We don't have anything usefull to build when we have won the game. We don't need wealth when we won the game. -> No need to build wealth at all ever! (There may be so exeptions, but not in the ancient age. For the math: We get 1 gp for eight shields. So a city producing wealth is production wise as good as non existent.

3. Some thoughts on the production of workers and settlers. Tientsin can make a worker in one turn, but grows in 4 turns to size 2. Since a worker needs a pop-point, it will 4 turns before finishing the worker.
When a city takes 10 turns to grow and 5 turns to make the ten shields for a worker it can produce 1 worker, when assigned from the start to it, OR can make first a warrior AND then a worker in the same 10 turns. Net win one warrior. Also hangshow is not the best place for a settler. Small and not the best grow rate.

4. Wonders: Yes wonders are cool, somewhat. And some are really usefull. But setting our two best cities to wonder working really limits our ability to build up the really importent things.
Also both wonders are quite nice, but the cities need other improvements more. Beijing a temple for examle. 6 citizins and growling, and it will grow next turn again.

Pre turn check:

eastern part is explored, nothing exiting :/ no iron

Strategic Analyze: I see only one iron deposit near bergen, the eastern part is explored, to the south is water, west and north are settled. Since we are close to MA (and our UU) i think there is no way around war against the vikings. Horseman are our best bet (and the best we have). We can also upgrade some later to our UU. Thats why i started some barracks and will start on the army afterwards.

OSG_RC1525BC.jpg

Situation: I started monarchy, we need a gov-change. I would prefer monarchy because i see some wars in the near future. Still a change to republic is possible, but imo republic could be more dangerous. And we are not religuos. We have a significant tech lead (4 techs at least) so no need to hurry.

We have three contacts, everyone is polite and smaller as we.

Still only one iron source visible.

We have 5 Horseman, 2 more in the next turn. I thing a fast strike against Bergen and Oslo during the next 5 - 10 turns (maybe earlier) would be fine. Trondheim could be more dangerous, but thats the dicision of the coming warlord. Both targets are at size 1 ATM, so it would be good to have one or two settler at hand during the attack, in case the cities are autorazed.

In the east the is room for two cities, a japanes settler pair is moving already east. I don't see a reason for hurry here, we can take cities build there by other civs later.

Japan has furs inside his core land, so this will be a nice target for the longer future.

No whipping done ;)

And here the SAVE

Good Luck for the next one :)

Just try it. I thought its dead, but maybe you can re-animate it :)

Don't worry, you can't do much wrong, and its a good way to get used to SG's :)

As betazed said :)

We have several horseman, and shanghei and beijing are pumping horses every two rounds. Maybe we need a settler, in case the iron city is autorazed.

For the turnlog: Somewhere like the others in this threat. Write what you do and why you do it. And some tips at the end for the next one, where you notice the general direction you think it should continue, imported things the next player should not miss and what else you like.

Don't worry, the most importend thing about this is fun :)

Should i play 10 or 20 turns? I'm on turn 6 now. I'm debating weater to go for troudhiem and finish vikings off, maybe with the help of aztecs but not till i get viking capital. They just biuld collossus. I won't give out anymore detials for now.

Pre-turn: move a few unmoved horsemen and warrior and change preferences more to my liking. From the looks of it we're not in bad shape.

Hit enter

IBT: Few AI movements. See Aztecan settler pair move west near Scandinavia, Japanese settler pair east.

Turn 1 (1500 bc):
Shanghai: horseman > settler
Tsingtao: horseman > horseman
Hangchow: worker > worker

Send worker to tatung to biuld a road when iron is taken.
Plant embassy in Aztec then sign ROP so I can explore their land. Forgot to look at the capital though.

IBT: nothing worth mentioning

Turn 2 (1475bc):
Beijing: Horseman > horseman
Canton: temple > spear

Have 8 horses now, 7 in Tatung and the 8th one turn away. Send one into Viking land to check defenders. Oslo as spear on top. Didn't see other town. I plan to attack in the next 3-4 turns. Have a backup settler being made and a worker heading to Tatung to connect iron ASAP.

IBT: Nothing. Japan settler pair moves out of our land, east

Turn 3 (1450 bc):
Shanghai: settler > horse
Tsingtao: horse > settler
Xinjian: horse > horse

Bergen also has a spear on top. Send horseman back to Tatung. Next turn I will move the horse SoD to the border, fortify, then declare war next turn and take at least Oslo and Bergen. 8 horses in Tatung and the scout horse already at the border. Also have one more horse one urn from Tatung which I will prolly fortify so Tatung isn't left defenseless.

IBT: Beijing riots ! I'm not good at MMing
:(
Turn 4 (1425 bc):
Nanking: Library > spear
Hangchow: worker > archer
Macao: warrior > harbor

If I declare now then I can move my horses directly onto the iron hill for defense…. I decide to declare now after I check to make sure no units are in Viking land. Move horses onto hill. Have 2 workers and settler in Tatung. I'm not sure weather I should sing MA with Aztecan. Should I try to finish Vikings now or just take what I need and sue? I'm wait a turn or 2 before I decide. If I sign MA with Aztec right now it would cost me code of laws and lit. I'll hold off till I need help if I decide to finish of Vikings.

IBT: See Viking settler pair on hill near Bergen. Maybe I can get some slaves. Japan is building lighthouse

Turn 5 (1400 bc):
Beijing: horse > horse
Shanghai: horse > horse
Tsingtao: settler > spear

Attack on Bergen begins.
Horse kills spear with -2 hp
Horse retreats -1 hp to spear
Horse dies, redlines last spear but it promotes :(
Horses kill spear and razes Bergen and captures settler for 2 slaves

china_OSG_-_bergen_razed.jpg

Move settler to claim the iron but keep workers in Tatung I know it’s mostly safe and move undamaged horses off to Oslo

IBT: Viking settler pair moves right next to former Bergen where my horses can kill it. I don't want them re-settler so I'll kill them now. Finish monarchy. I forgot to lower science bar with 1 turn left doh!! Research feudalism next due in 9 turns. Pass on revolution for now. I'll get into monarchy after war is over.

Canton: spear > galley
Canton's border expands
Nanking: spear > horse
Xinjian: horse > horse
Chengdu: archer > spear
Treasury running low with 8 gold at -1 gpt
Trondhiem builds colossus. Now I definitely going to take it

Turn 6 1375 bc:

Horse attack settler pair, redlines spear but dies
Doh! 3/4 horse attack relined settler and loses and it promotes don’t know if I should attack with my injured horses. I don't them re-setting plus I want he slaves. I will attack against my better judgment.
2/4 horse redlines against spear and retreats. I'll get them later because all I have left nearby is another redlined horse

Horse attacks spear in Oslo and kills it -1 hp and Oslo is auto razed!!

china_OSG_-_oslo_razed.jpg

Second settler has not arrived in Tatung yet but I will re-settle Oslo ASAP. Move remaining horses next to settler pair so I can attack next turn. Start road to iron with 3 captured workers.

IBT:
Beijing: Horse > market
Shanghai: horse > horse
Tsingtao: spear > horse

Started building SoZ

Treasury low at 10 gold with -5 gpt. I will either lower science rate or trade a tech away for gold.

Turn 7 (1350 bc):
Aztecs have 13 gold and Japan have 4 so I will have to lower science rate while I build more markets. I also noticed we can now trade with Japan but we have extra silks while they have extra furs to trade. They want silks and CoL for furs. I accept then fire clown in Beijing.
Disband extra warrior on Japanese border which lowers deficit to -4 gpt.
I now should be able to kill that settler piar which has fortified in forest.
Horse attack and kills spear with -2 hp and we gian 2 more slaves.
Disband another warrior in Tsingtao to get -3gpt deficit.
I spotted a blue border north of the Aztecs. Must be Germany.
I'm gonna gather a large SoD in the iron city when it is founded to luanch an attack on viking capital (If I don't sue for peace), vikings refuse to talk anyway.

IBT:
Chengdu: spear > market
Tatung: spear >horse

The people really like me :D! They like me enough to give our wonderful palace a nice lawn :D
Dumb treasury thing( 7 gold at -5 gpt).

Turn 8 (1325 bc):
Disband warrior in Chengdu, -4 gpt
Found Anyang on ruins of Bergen.

china_OSG_-_Anyang.jpg

Settler 2 turns away from founding new city on Oslo ruins
Viking will give me stockholm if I sue for peae now. But where is stockholm? I pass for now.
Road to iron will be done in one turn. We are breaking even now in income.
I should meet the Germans next turn.

IBT:
Shanghai: horse > market, border also expand
Nanking: horse > horse
Xinjian: horse > horse

Turn 9 (1300 bc):
Contact Germany. They have 12 gold, ten cities, no luxuries or strat resources, and we are up 4 techs (Literature, Currency, Monarchy, and Construction).
Road to iron done. Change Xinjian, Tsingtao, and Nanking from horses to swords.
We have 10 horses in Anyang waiting to attack Trondheim, all but two is vet, the two are elite. I will sent them out next turn towards viking capital.

IBT:
Germans ask that my scout warrior be removed from their land.

Canton: galley > market
Tsingtao: sword > sword
Hangchow: archer > settler

Turn 10 (1275 bc):
I have one horse outside Copenhagen. I don't know why I sent only one. Hope it's enough.
Horse kills spear loses -2 hp but there is another spear.
Shantung founded on Oslo ruins.

china_OSG_-_Shantung.jpg

Horse SoD leaves Anyang. Wil arrive at hill outsie Trondheim in 2 turns.

I am taking a break now. Will play last ten turns and post the rest of the turn log tomorrow.I would like to know how good you guys think i did too.

Becuase i am bad at MMing i was tempted to use the governor and automate workers. I'm glad i didn't do either.

Here's a sceenshot of the chinese empire.
china_OSG_-_1275.jpg

Am i supposed to play 10 or 20 turns? If 10 i will post the save first thing tomorrrow. I'll give my after thoughts right now.

I really think the next player should follow though with taking Tndhiem. weather you completely destroying the vikings is up to you. I would also suggest getting Copenhagen for its incense. After that you should either sue for a city or two or continue the conquest of the vikings. As for science you can research anything you want. I wasn't thinking of ny specific path other then getting chivalry soon. You can biuld anything in the towns, i didn't have any long term plans. I would also suggest switching to monarchy after the war with the vikings is over. Maybe republic but it isn't researched yet.

:goodjob: Well done. Ten turns it is. Only thing left to do right now for you is to post the save ;).

Some thoughts:

I would stick with the horse production instead of swordsmen. We can upgrade our horses to riders, while swords will be quite dead weight after we get chivalry.

One thing i slightly disliked was the the warrior disbanding. A puny warrior can still save a town when the first defender is slayn. If only he may buy an additional turn.
[edit] it also serves as a MP, and a content citizin for 1 gp isn't too bad.

And i would be very cautioness about a RoP with the aztecs ;)
Maybe slowing reseach slightly to build up some money for upgrading.

Hopefully someone else takes it further :)

I will grab it tonight if no one else takes it before that. If someone wants to then just post a got it. I will do the same.
