I successfully installed Civ IV and the latest patch on an XP sp2 machine.

However, the game will not start. The LOADING splash screen appears, sits for a few minutes and then closes down with a windows error.

I updated the video driver, the BIOS and about everything else I could think of.

I then contacted the phone support and they indicated that the game will not work with the Intel 945GM Chipset, however after researching the TnL thread and other threads on this board, it seems that it CAN work.

If anyone has any experience with or ideas on settings to make this work that would be appreciated as I am on the verge of returning the game.

Bro, I'm using the same chipset. Sometimes the game loads, sometimes it doesn't. I find shutting down EVERYTHING I have running in the background helps.

Hi, I am using a laptop with the 945GM intel chipset and I found that in order to get it to work, its best to do the following.

First you need to update the 945GM chipset to latest video drivers (from the intel site). Then get the Civ 1.52 patch, and with the combination of the two it should work. However you should turn off all animations and set all video settings to low (make sure you set Anti-Aliasing to 0 too). This has been working ok for me, everything runs smoothly, tho some crashes occur every once in awhile, i just reboot and keep on going.
