Optimizing FFH

Hi guys,

Im currently unable to play anything beyond standard sized maps due to the long waits between turns. I was wondering if I could get a bit of advice how one could optomize FFH so it could run as quickly as possible: WHich graphic options? Maybe an addon patch?

Comeon people, anyone have any idea's? I've read more than a few comments of people who play large and huge maps on less than stellar computers. Any tips on how to optimize the game (graphic wise, downloading certain mods or map scripts)?
 
You can try running game booster. And of course, turn off as many programs and windows services as you can, make sure your computer is spyware free, etc.

There's a few settings in CivilizationIV.ini which may help a little. Chances are they're already the way you want them. If you can't find the file there should be a shortcut to it in your BtS directory.

There really isn't that much you can do ingame. Turning down the graphics may help but probably not so much.
 
Civilization can only use a single processor. If you're on a relatively weak laptop dual core you might get some benefit from going back to a somewhat beefy single core.
 
I'm sure I read somewhere that changes the units from multiple units into single units (look under Options) helps a bit.
 
My understanding is that it's all the AI and game calculations taking up the time, not graphics. I think some of the mod mods have some extra optimizations going on, but those might have already been implemented. Anyone know?
 
I believe that Sephi has a gameoption in the Wildmana modmod that de-optimizes AI decision making to speed up the late game. Not sure on this, as I haven't played WM in a month or two. WM does seem to have the fastest WoC time of the three big ones. Not sure if its any faster then base FfH, though.
