Origin of the word "pwnage"

Or lwnage. Or 9wnage.

I wonder if people go to type "pwnage", but mistype it and type "ownage" instead? :coffee:

That will happen a few years from now.

Perhaps sooner if grammar nazis start their conquest of the gaming world.

Why wasn't it iwnage then?

Because most of the times that I miss 'o' I hit 'p', rather than any other letter. Occasionally I might hit '9' but that is a rarity.

You all realise, that in another ten years or so, someone will start a thread asking about the origin of the term; 24age.

It would appear that countrygrl has just 24'd this thread.

Why wasn't it iwnage then?

Because the pinky finger is used to hit both the 'o' and 'p' keys. The 'i' key is usually used by the ring finger.

Of course, I could be completely BSing it. *prepares to be 24'd*

Read page 1, obliterate.

If you type correctly, you'll use your right ring finger for 9ol. and your pinky finger for 0p;/ then -['SHIFT and so on, for more distant keys.

Only if you type correctly though. I know people who type funkily. I tell them, "dude, that sucks", but they continue to do it and type at their beautiful 5 wpm.

It depends on what system you use. I personally use thumbs for space and (mainly) my index and middle fingers for most everything else. You move your hand a lot, but I find it works.

Sure, it works, but that doesn't make it efficient. ;)

Well, I end up typing about as fast as I can figure what exactly to type (read: grammar, structure, wording, etc.), and frankly I don't want to have to unlearn a method and start from scratch.

It's called "leet speak". It actually used to be popular and "cool" to use it, but then the masses started accessing the internet and legions of pre-pubescent kids started typing with it non-stop, and everyone got sick of it.

Gamer term.

As mentioned already:

Pwn: Player Own

l33t: elite

In sentance: Ima pwn u cause im l33t and ura n00b.

Point being, the creative use of adjacent keys.
