Over moderating

Btw, i'm surprised this hasn't been closed since this thread is questioning the moderators "power" :rolleyes: :lol:
Site Feedback is TF's personal demesne. Mere moderators do not close a thread here until it becomes a actual disruption or other real problem; doing so would be insobordinate.

Oh, you know. Spreading out the cloak on the wall, the one with a red circle with the name 'Ohwell' in it, then throwing the dagger at it to see if I can hit it - to decide if I shld ban Ohwell today, for spamming in the OT again... :mischief: :p

Do ya feel lucky? Do ya punk? ;)

I think the moderators are doing a splendid job. Except for col. He smells like sardines. But otherwise he's a good moderator.

Oh oh!

Did I hit a nerve?

By no means do I complain! I just posted my thougths.

By DoM: There is a zero tolerance for piracy. Zero, none.
Are you more concerned that the time you spent on your reply was lost or that the thread was closed? Perhaps the very idea that your reply was that important to you is an indicator that that thread was getting out of hand. But, yes, threads are closed in attempts to avoid issues. We would rather close a thread than to let it keep going and have to ban posters after it is all done with.

By GFC: @Stapel, if you had read the rules, you would've known piracy is intolerable here, and as for the thread that could've been described as trolling, well you've said it, it was trolling, so I'd just let dead dogs lie. Complaining about moderation has never helped

Just like everybody I do approve the rules on piracy and on trolling. Somehow my posts are qualified as another complaint to moderators... I think that is too bad!

I just think things can be handled a bit easier. I have a simple reason for that: I hardly see any really bad things here at CFC. That, my dear moderators, is a compliment to the work you do here! For such a large & broad forum it is really good! In fact when I see something that annoys me on this forum, most of the time it is a moderator action. I perfectly understand that these actions are done to prevend all kinds of nasty stuff! But in general, IMVVVVHO I think it is a little too tight.

Every thread closed, to prevend flaming, also prevends a possible good discussion. Or an explination to other posters how things work at the other side of the ocean.

And of course piracy sucks. And it IS right to warn posters! But it can be done without scaring off a naive newbie, looking for good forum.

@Col & Ohwell: I do like sardines!

Obviously you're still here, so you must've not been that scared :p :p :p

The point is with your first example, that would be different were it almost anything else(aside from pornography) in that it IS incredibly strict, and kindly asking might not get the sincerity across if you know what I mean ;)

Ok - so I live in a fishing town. I shower every other month. What more do you want?

:hmm:
Is it about the smell?
Sardines are usually put in cans... sounds like a subtle (or can I say canny here) cloaked hint to form a world wide conspiracy in order to restrict mod powers on internet fora! :mischief: :lol:

Ah, that explains it. No problems. ;) Might want to use soap though. :mischief:

I don't quite get it. You are saying the forums are over 'modded' because you got a warning? Now, if you had gotten banned, I might see your point, but...

No, that is not my point. It is not just one or two things. And it is either a huge point. Just my 2 grants. Maybe I shouldn't have added the examples....

Of course the warning was good. But, as I was clearly intending to buy the game (not asking for a no-cd patch or so), a warm word of welcome would not have conflicted with the zero-spam-policy.

My point: I think the quality of our beloved CFC Forum won't be jeopardized by a bit more easy moderating. I think so, because IMVVVHO the ratio (moderating actions) / (flaming + trolling + piracy) is quite high.

I am not asking all of you to agree! Maybe it is good the way it is now. I just express my thoughts, based on an almost daily visit of this forum.

Are you telling me you don't want to get rid of people like our Neopets friend yesterday, who, although quite amusing, was also quite annoying?

.....a warm word of welcome would not have conflicted with the zero-spam-policy.

Which is generally there, from both the mods and posters...maybe they just didn't like you :p

During periods when I do post in Civ3 GD, I'll usually end my posts there with a 'BTW, welcome to CFC! :)' when replying to posters with less than 20-30 posts. ;)

As I remembered it, some other posters do the same too.

Come on please! By no means am I referring to lunatics like him/her.

@XIII & GfC:

Most is ok. But I have thought many times: Well, that newbie could have been 'welcomed' a bit easier. Not just once or twice.

there is only one thing worse than over moderation-thats under moderation! better safe than sorry:)

Now that I am a listed moderator for this forum, I ccan deal with this thread on a non urgent level. MUWHA HA HA! die marginaly evil thread, die!
