Which is better? A cottage based economy or an SE strategy? Also, does anyone have a good guidline for each because i'm having a hard time understanding exactly what or how a SE strategy works. I think i'm doing ok as is (30k -50k scores on Prince, all Domination victories with Finacial Leaders). I'm mostly trying to get some insight to better strategies. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

welcome to the posting side of CFC even tho you've been a member a long time. this debate is as old as time itself, and will likely never be settled, even by a time victory.
consensus, as far as there is one, seems to be that SE is best for warring, so that would go along with your domination victories, altho not necessarily with your financial leaders. CE sometimes feel like they take longer to get going (cottages take time to grow, whereas your first great people take the least amount of GPP to show up). then again, SEs can take advantage of emancipation to transition to CE in whole or in part later in the game, and CEs can also generate GP and can set up GP farms. which is "better"? well, prepare for debate. and more debate.
SE is more powerful on the higher levels that lower levels if you're good at lightbulbing techs and managing trades with the AI, since the AIs tech faster and have more options for trading. for me, CE was easier to learn than SE, with its GP lightbulb preferences and keeping track of what you don't want to self-research in order to not get the GP to change his mind about what he'll teach you.
i can't tell you at all as fas as "doing ok" score wise since i don't look at the official game score, i go by whether i had fun and if i'm impressed by succeeding at something new or pulling off a spiffy trick, whatever. if you're having fun, that's the main thing IMO. if you want to improve or move up in levels, that's nifty too. i can't point you to specific guides offhand. there are a lot of guides out there, and i think all of them include debate about key points

Specialists economy are very powerful provided :
- pyramids (for representation)
or
- philo (for fast GPP generation).
If you can't have any of those 2 things, you're better off with cottages and a GP farm or 2.
