Overthrow the Monarchy?

Time to bring up the age-old question: should we become a republic or democracy?

Pros

-War weariness would no longer be a big problem, considering how quickly we can wage war sucessfully.

-Corruption is rampant all over the nation due to our form of government.

-Commerce across the nation could be increased dramastically.

-We have enough luxuries that the loss of MPs would not make a large happiness difference.

-IIRC, the more advanced form of government, the less likely a city will flip.

-If we chose a democracy, worker speed would increase

Cons

--With reduced corruption and increased commerce, could we still afford to pay increased troop maintence?

--Time spent in anarchy could be devestating.

I'm currently of the opinion that the game is too far along to take six turns off to switch governments. We cannot afford to give our enemies that much time to build up their defenses.

Well the Pros out Weights the Cons. If we switch to any governemt, the Leingth of Anarchy would be the same. Too bad we are not a Religious Civ otherwise we would not have to deal with Anarchy.

I was a very vocal sponsor of becoming a Democracy during the Early Industrial age, so that we could ready ourselves domestically for the discovery of Panzers. But two things happened: the proposal got voted down, and we became friends with the Greeks($$$).

At this point in time, we will see ourselves at war for the rest of the game, so changing to a government that ushers in war weariness would be a grave mistake. Plus, in monarchy, each new city we liberate will help to pay maintenance on our ever-expanding army.

DZ - This brings up another interesting Question to the Inquisitve mind. How long will Anarchy last if we ever do this (Dave if you are reading this, please Reasearch and come up with a Formula )

Remember DG1? It took us 7 turns at this point. It could be more now, since we're MUCH larger.


EDIT: I just talked to Dave, and we both agree. It's far too late. We're in the era of tanks. Things are going to start coming pretty fast now. Planes, UN, Mech Inf, Spaceship, Modern Armor, Nukes.

By my estimate, we will get these techs in the following turnchats:

Flight - Turn Chat 1 (Planes)
Radio - Turn Chat 2
Fission - Turn Chat 3 (UN)
Computers - Turn Chat 3 or 4 (Mech Inf)

We need to do two things now:

1 - Really save up our cash reserves to upgrade to Mech Inf.
2 - Build a lot of tanks.

We could set up a Consitutinal Monarchy, Oh wait. We are a Consitutional Monarchy .

A Revilouton is not the best option right now. Right now we are on the Upper Portion of the Scientific Polabra (is that how it is spelt ). I have no intentions to halt our Scientific Research we have worked so hard to develope.
