I was all eager to strike a PA with the neighboring AI Controlled Israelis, and, indeed, together we are easily the dominant civ in the world. However, other than trading in resources, I seem to have no impact whatsoever on their behavior. I can't get them to commit military resources to help me stomp out the infidels, I can't get them to attack their neighbor--that we're at war with--a little more aggressively (we have destroyers and tanks, they have, um, riflemen, should be easy), and I can't get him to stop diverting all of his resource beakers to something else. Help? Or, is this standard?

when you contact them click on lets talk about something else - you can then ask them to change research (which they will) and tell them what city to attack (which works only sometimes since they need units available that don't have other active plans).

You can ask for anything in white and they will have to give it (in the trade screen.). Also, click on "Let's talk about something else...", then click:

"We want you to research...": Goes into tech list; they'll switch immediately (won't switch back).
"We want you to attack..." : Goes into city list; all units without orders will go to that city.

Thanks, yeah, I tried that and it seemed to have no impact. So, I guess the questions are:

* Can I influence the way they allocate their resources (that is, the AI decided to drastically drop beaker production--perhaps going for a culture win, I dunno).

* Is there any way to _strategize_ with an AI (make them focus on one route to victory) that you have a PA with?

* Is there any way to influence the orders their units have to free them up to help with my war effort? That is, he had deep stacks of troops in internal cities just sitting there--I assume on Sentry--that I really could have used.

* Finally, perhaps a suggestion for mods or next versions: if an AI signs a PA with a human, the human player should have greater control over the AI, I would think.

You can ask for any amount of gold if going cultural to keep up your culture slider but they make decisions for what victory conditions to go for independantly. When i used those options with an AI it worked fine...

PA is pretty overpowered with a human and AI. You can basically control them. Once I was Mali and signed a PA with Cyrus. I used him as a hammer to smash my enemies into oblivion. My techs+his massive army+ his cheap upgrades=LOLDIE

in case you and another civ (not nessesary vassal/PA) are at war with another, you can also ask it to attack a certain city. for example ask to attack Junk City up north on a one-tile island. Keep one sentry ship there. as soon as the civ lands its stack (or doesnt, oh well) you may sue for peace and backstab your former military friend and raze his nearly-empty cities :D

But there seems to be no way to monitor these requests, right? That is, they are also conducting a major war, and don't seem very responsive to my requests. Also, it seems impossible to change them from turn to turn--that is, I no longer want you to attack X, b/c I've bombed it into oblivion, mov on and attack Y.

I guess what I'm looking for is a screen where you can rank the things you would like your PA to do in order of preference, as well as see if they are doing them: like seeing that they have committed X total units to conquering Y, whatever.

If you manage a PA with an AI, you can also get them to give you a lot of their newer cities. Granted, a lot of them are crap, but you can still take them if you want.
