Pagan Culture

Well this game is wrapping up nicely here. As I thought, Athens is going to be the last to go legendary. It'll probably be another 40 turns at the current rate as the numbers it's showing right now are inflated from the GA.

IT: I kick off the golden age and change to US. I also lower the slider as we don't need techs but rather cash. I want to make sure we get the modern wonders to speed up our VC. I also cancel the citizen automation in the cities - just make sure you look through the newly growing cities to make sure spies aren't being hired.

Turn 277 - Zara wants biology. I give it to him figuring no harm. This pushes him to friendly and I sign a DP with him. Zara is also no longer busy - I guess he was thinking of attacking us but stopped after we continued to spam rifles? Whoever left Teouhican on permanent rifle duty probably saved our butts :) I also trade biology to Zara for communism but I don't adopt it since we want the corporation culture. I also trade with Izzy for democracy since I still can't figure out who she's trying to attack. I also wanted democracy because Saladin's spies are getting very annoying (they keep on pillaging farms).

Turn 278 - I rush buy Rock n' Roll for a little over 3k.

Turn 280 - I get the corp quest. The reward isn't very good but if you're bored during your set, feel free to finish it :lol: I think it gives +10gpt to the corp. HQ.

Turn 282 - I rush buy Hollywood for a little under 3k. I also change back to representation since US is no longer necessary and we can research with representation artists. A tornado also strikes Athens, destroying the odeon - doh! There goes 3 culture :(

Turn 284 - a GA is born and is sent to Athens. He's sitting outside of the city for now. Just build the great work when the city is at 45k or so (to make sure we don't get a last minute AI declaration trying to stop our VC).

Turn 285 - nada. Zara has also built the Pentagon and both Justinian and Zara have RR. I haven't seen mining inc. founded so if we get an engineer by chance, feel free to found mining inc. Thebes is also about 8 turns from completing the UN (for good measure). I would leave it 1 turn from completion until somebody finishes researching MM as we don't really need it and voting may lead to ... unfortunate consequences (like having to defy a resolution). However Justinian is #2 in pop right now so it probably won't be an issue if we complete it.

I would be very surprised if this game comes back to me.

Roster:
shyuhe just played
qwertz (are you back? if so you're UP)
yena (on deck - if we don't hear from qwertz in a day or so, feel free to pick it up)

???
Did you now gift bio to zara or trade it? ;)

Also, to stop bugging sal, do some counterspionage, cheap and reliable.

Seems the game is in the bag but I'll wait a bit with congratulations :lol:

The round started quite peacefully. I was just MMing the workers and cities and pressing ENTER without much happening. We researched RR, got some more Great Artists, put research to 0%, started to build culture in the Big Three, while the rest of the cities were building some machineguns...

And than all of a sudden;

Luckily the AI suck at intercontinental invasions, so;

Beside some ships pillaging our fish, we never saw a Spanish unit again.

At the turn 300, my turnset would actually end, but I decided to press ENTER again;
Corinth & Tenochtitlan became legendary
…and again;
Athens became legendary. (Not that bad timing actually. :D)
:woohoo:

Congratulations to everyone, it was a fun game to play. :trophy:

P.S.The 1860 save is attached, if someone wants to look at it.

Ah, so Isabella was indeed after us. I think she was preparing for that invasion for centuries... Do you have any idea how much damage Zara may have inflicted on Izzy from the war?

I'm surprised that Athens went legendary 2 turns after Corinth and Tenochtitlan considering it was lagging pretty far behind during my set. I guess the great works helped a lot in that department.

:goodjob: team - this was a fun game to play for me as well. I think the initial chariot rush on Monty made the game a lot easier though (perhaps too easy). Then again if we didn't rush, we probably would have been boxed in and eventually eliminated by Monty since we were lacking in land and resources in our little penninsula.

It's a pity that we only had one war declaration from religion requests :( Even with all religious fanatics on the map...

Zara captured only 1 Spanish city AFAIK, but the war wasn't very long. If it went on for a bit, I'm sure Zara would have totally killed Izzy.
The difference between Athens and the other two was actually only 1 turn. The great works helped a bit; Athens got 2, Tenochtitlan 1, Corinth 0. But I also assigned the maximum amount of artists in Athens, starving it down for the last few turns. Doing the same in the other two, would have shaved off some turns there too, but it wasn't necesery.
I also hoped we would get some more religion requests, but it was a fun game anyway.

Nice win! A Panagea map would probably had created more religious friction. I might try this in an off-line game sometime.
