Pandemic the Board Game (Play-by-Forum)

End of Turn Four
Golden1Knight arrived in Delhi, surrounded by the throngs of people. Without waiting, he got straight to work, administering medicine and diagnosing people. His talent as a medic was clear, and soon no significant trace of the Black Death was present. Maybe they could beat this disease after all.

[Three black cubes have been removed from Delhi. Golden1Knight is now in Delhi.]

CARD DRAW

Golden1Knight has drawn two cards:

INFECTION DRAW

Recent air traffic between the cities of St. Petersburg and Montréal has increased the cases of Blue Lip Choke. Symptoms, especially the choking, seem to be worsening. [St. Petersburg and Montréal receive one blue cube each.]

Discover a Cure: Spend 4 cards of the same color at a research station to cure a disease.
Share Knowledge: Take or give a card that matches your city with someone also in that city.
Build Research Station: Discard a card matching your current city to build a research station in your current city.

I'll edit the first posts after a bit. About to eat.

Probably no more updates this evening. ;)

We don’t actually have to deal with Algiers because it’s impossible for any more cubes to be put on there except by an outbreak in an adjacent city. We only have to really worry if the next epidemic card shows up adjacent to Algiers. (Granted, that’s likely enough that we probably can’t afford to ignore it)

Well noted. Yeah, it would be safer to off at least one cube, just for sure.

I say Marcher cleans London and proceeds to St Pete. Syn returns to HK and burns a card to reach Cairo builds a research center and moves to algeirs. I'll clean up Beijing and move to Shanghai, and G1K can clear Karachi and Baghdad. Next move marcher can clean St Pete and go to Cairo and I can shuttle to Cairo and give him cards for at least one cure.

Tentatively double-cleaning London and heading to St. Pete's, unless someone has another idea.

I guess other possibilities are heading to Montreal or Algiers instead, and/or considering a 1-and-1 instead of double in London.

Another possibility is, perhaps, ending your turn where you can get a black card from either Golden or Syn (Algiers or Baghdad) If you or Tim get lucky and draw a black card, that's 4 black cards. Then G1K turns into a vacuum cleaner.

London -> St. Peter's is a strong play as well for fighting disease (because London is coming now and St. Peter's will come next epidemic).

So it's a trade-off, perhaps, but you could cure a disease next turn if you are lucky. :)

To be clear, Algiers meeting would probably be this turn while a Baghdad meeting could work with the St. Petersburg plan.

Whatever you guys decide, I'll try to update this afternoon. Sundays are busy for me but I should get a chance. I am just away from the computer a lot.

I think the key is winding up somewhere in reach of where I can meet you to give you cards. If you head to Montreal I would have to fly to Atlanta, and that puts us both sort of out of the way. I think with both of us drawing cards there's a good chance for either a black or a yellow cure. And as long as you and I stay close together so I can feed you cards drawing four per turn between us should turn you into a cure factory.

I will follow everyone else's wisdom.
I will burn my Mexico City yellow card for when I shuttle next turn to Cairo.

The problem: I won't be able to knock Algiers down from 3. But this should hopefully not matter since it's been removed from the infection deck and there is no risk of epidemic between now and our collective card swapping.

Researcher-Scientist is commonly known as easy mode. ;)

Especially if you draw Medic and Dispatcher. Operations Expert is good, but the Dispatcher is super powerful. He can move other players pawns with his actions, even flying pawns to other pawns without cards. But role assignment is random, so you got what you got. :)

Right. Just get there and then you can wipe it out next turn.

Do we have to worry about running out of cards? Like it is a major pain in the ass to get that yellow Mexico City card from Syns hand into Marcher's so it seems like the obvious burn, but once it is burned we can't get it back and if we burn too many yeallow cards do we wind up putting ourselves in a locked loss where we can never cure the yellow disease? I'm not sure how that works...

About time someone else asks a good question. :D

There's one card for each city. 12 cities each color. You're safe spending 3 or perhaps 4 before you cure, but each one after that makes it tighter and tighter.

So one yellow card... Meh. 6 yellow cards discarded? You have a much smaller window - 6 left and you could draw them near the end. Spending yellow seems like a good move right now. In absolute desperation, you can spend 7 of each but that's super risky bc you don't know which ones they will be.

You can also build as many research stations as you want a turn, and since you can move them, you can slap one down, move, and then place another. :D

I won't be able to update until tonight.

@Synsensa I guess this counts as calling out of my part time job. :p
