Pantheon bonuses

Are these still active when the Pantheon is replaced by a religion? And if so, does the Pantheon bonus apply to any city you own that follows that religion?

Bad Wolf: Before your Found a religion, your Pantheon belief is automatically installed into any new City you Found.

Your Pantheon belief is subsumed into a religion you found.

After your Found your religion, however, new cities do NOT get your Pantheon automatically. You have to 'convert' your city to your religion to get your Pantheon bonus.

So, if I force my religion on to others I can screw them out of the bonuses they have chosen for themselves if they have a pantheon?

Yes, if you spread your religion to be the majority in foreign cities they will gain your religion's beliefs and benefits in those cities and lose the benefits from any other religions/pantheons.

I doubt it. Pantheon beliefs are pre-Religion. Follower beliefs and enhancer beliefs are probably another story. I'll light up Fire Tuner when I have some time and find out for certain.

Taking that a step further, you want to choose beliefs that would benefit your civ, not global beliefs like +1 culture per pasture if you are going to be spreading faith or else you end up helping them.

I just do not see any of the beliefs being better then ones I take, and the follower beliefs are good for all. Food, Food and more Food. And since I also take Tithe, I want every city to have food , food = more Science and more Gold.

I will wait for the math people to do their maths before I switch from food, those food beliefs are just to damn good when you get them. With the food bonus and with CS quest, your gold can all go to uinits for 1st 2 ERA's, without having to stop your infrastructure builds.

Any ways that is how I feel at this time.

Food is, to me, the foundation for any victory condition. Excess food enables you to run Specialists. Now that Religion has reared its head, increased pop = increased faith generation and therefore more stuff from pop-dependent beliefs.

Certain terrain based ones can be good like the ones that give faith for deserts or tundras when you have those and are spreading to areas without them.

Also the religious buildings or holy warriors might be good as well. If you can spread your religion to them they are probably not playing a heavy faith-based game. So they won't have enough faith to purchase and make full use of those beliefs.

On my game as Carthage (Immortal-Marathon) I was one of last to get a founder belief, but chose the +2 science per trade route. Since I have 4 cities (2 used to be Mongolian) right on the coast, my science is quickly catching me up to the pack as far as game score and technology wise is going. This boost seems to be perfect for Carthage in higher levels to help catch up tech wise in the Classical Era

The food beliefs are very powerful, but very dangerous to spread to foreign cities. I would be very reluctant to use them in a game where I was planning on spreading my religion everywhere. Though they are awesome if you are containing your religion to your own empire.

Can anyone confirm my suspicion - pantheon's automatically spread to new cities until you found a religion - then they only kick in when the full religion spreads to each city via pressure / missionaries...

Response #2 in this thread already did. :p

I take it that with convert being in brackets, that you mean you had to send a missonary to 'start' up your own religion in your newly built cities?

I just finished playing as William, my 1st city was with some desert tiles around it so once I got chose my Pantheon belief I picked desert folklore (at turn 27, Celts got theirs at turn 5). This Pantheon combined with a World Wonder that gave me +4 faith (had to build a 2nd city to get the Wonder though, but that wasn't until turn 51), but these combined gave me enough faith so I could found my religion at turn 61 (1st founded religion).

Now, there wasn't much desert tiles around on the Island I ended up on part from where my capital where, but had a few more tiles here and there further away from the Capital, build my 3rd city at turn 166 and 2 more later on which had desert tiles close by, and neither of these 3 cities I had to *convert* to my religion, after a couple of turns they automaticlly took up my religion and the desert tiles around those cities got the +1 Faith from my Pantheon beliefs as well.

Ulthwithian, if I missunderstood your use of 'convert' I do appologize.
