Paradigm Shift II: Queen of Culture

If I research currency I can go code of laws afterwards... thinking about doing that now that the Oracle has gone. I want aesthetics for the Parthenon at some point though (I'll need polytheism as well for that).

Aes -> Curr -> CoL -> Myst -> Poly -> Constr ?

Then finish Sury off. I, personally, would research Construction right after Aesthetics, but I'm a hot blooded warmonger. Granted, your argument against using Spies is true, so that would probably be unfeasible.

I can probably get myst & poly in trades later. I'm just undecided whether to make a dash for code of laws to make sure I get the religion, I'll delay aesthetics then.

Nice thread. Go with peace, get some military techs and use better units to take him out. That way you get nice veteran units to defend yourself with as you start culturing up.

Two questions:
1) Why did you research archery when you had access to chariots?
2) Writing for pottery??????????????

Holy thread necromancy Batman!

But at least it is my thread ;)

Update: Installing an AOL update killed the internet for 2 months (crashed PC as soon as it got connected), helplines no help. Couldn't even uninstall properly unless I disconnected the modem. I tried it again this weekend and it worked, then upated again and broke. Another uninstall and reinstall seemed to fix it though.

So the options are: continue this game (still have saves, haven't played any more or looked at the game since April), or generate another start.

Please continue to play this one out!

I'm interested to see how you'll manage a cultural victory out of this start.

Heh, I'll be surprised if I can pull off a cultural from this start too, but I will try.

Answering some of the questions raised:

1) Trading writing for pottery... I think that's not too bad. Trying to make pals with the neighbours except Sury, and I need cottages and granaries ASAP.

2) Researching archery when I had chariots - Shaka is next door! True, with iron hooked up I could build axes but I hadn't built the settler for the iron spot when I discovered it. EDIT: Also, building axes I may be inclined to go too much on the offensive and leave Cathy's nether regions unprotected. I'm aming for peace & diplo skills after dealing with Sury.

Looks like an interesting map and game ahead anyway. Wish me and my mistress Cathy luck!

Good. I was wondering what happend to this game.
Good luck with the culture.

I'll continue playing this game tomorrow folks. Been too busy at work and getting drunk last few days.

OK have played a short round.

Will try and do the write up tonight or tomorrow.

Met another AI and saw an AI backstab, which doesn't happen very often.

I'm going down the parthenon/statue of Zeus path but Sury has elephants and horses unfortunately. And he is trying to out culture Cathy!

Surya's capital should have been sacked 2 turns after war declaration imo. Enough 2-move chariots from the edge of your cultural borders would've done the trick. From there it would've been mop-up duty :)

Yup, you could have a point there. I went for Hariharalaya instead of the capital, which I hadn't scouted enough for my liking. Maybe a bit more va-va-voom is what Cathy needs.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll make a game of it anyway, cultural is an area of my game I need to improve.
