I played a little longer as i did not want my successor to be in revolution but things did not work out exactly as planned.
The good news: Roosevelt is fighting until his last soldier and does very well.
The bad news: Vicky is a pain. $%&/*! I HATE YOU! (sorry)
I begin my turn with directing american troops towards pharsalos, they are successful and raze the city.
Our troops reach Thebes, we sacrifice 2 trebs and kill all defenders but one.
Next round our warmongering friend Roosevelt captures and razes the city.
He also discovers cooperation and i trade astronomy for it.
We found the northern suggested city to press Vickys cities.
The people of Calixthingy want to join our empire. As the city captures cultural space that would otherwise be claimed by american, korean and english influence i decide to keep the city.
As you can see on the screen i decided to build the Forbidden Palace in Yektarinenburg, we won't find a much better place for it, especially as we have to pay upkeep for the cities of our vassals, too!
I wonder why we didn't already built it.
We play the old "kill all defenders but one"-game with Halicarnassus:
and send Roosevelt in direction of Sparta.
Quite some of our cities are very unhappy, mainly due to emancipation:
No problem, i'll just get emancipation from Vicky and switch to emancipation and free speech at once. Or so you'd think:
In my opinion this is a bug. Regarding to
WFYABTA friendly civs should never shun you for tech-whoring.
In this case Vicky likes Roosevelt - she is pleased with him. Roosevelt counts as member of the team she should trade with and as she is "only" pleased with him (i checked) she drops us (Roosevelt and us as a team) to pleased, thus denying us the tech.
This is just one of the bad implementation issues of vassal states, they are handled like permanent alliances barring the fact that vassals do not share techs. See page 3 of the linked thread where Mutineer already adressed this issue.
As we could only trade steam power to saladin i decide to go after liberalism myself. Throws my plans back seven rounds.
To make things even worse Vicky got a great artist in the city we are trying to crush culturally and decides to settle him in place. We have to pay attention that our cities are not the ones flipped now...
(did i mention i hate her?)
Sparta falls prey to a heroic american grenadier who was the last of the mighty american force, capturing the city with strength 6 before the fight
Straight after razing the city he dies a heroic death to some greek rifles and of course we revenge his dead, give him the highest russian medal (posthumous) and gift his familiy 50g. With Forbidden Palace constructed we can allow us this as we get 30g more (+20 instead of -10 per round) now.
Roosevelt has Scientific Method researched, we trade steampower for it, asking him to stop trading with Wang Kon and Saladin in addition to prevent our precious tech spreading to them.
Here a view over the (ex) greek territory, i did not place a city yet, we have a settler ready at smolensk and building another one at Yaroslav. Our troops are en route to Mycene while two cossacks are placed on a hill in the west to scout and block counterattacks. Alex does not have much to attack with though
I am pretty sure Roose will raze Mycene which should open some space for us to build two cities. We could build one 2S of the gems on the grass hill but as said i want to leave some place for discussion here.
I neglected Monte a bit, Vicky is not eager to do anything against him, we should prepare some settlers before kicking him down or accept his capitulation. Oh, nearly forgot to mention, Monte is free again as Alex dropped in power too fast i think.
All in all i think things are going well, we should press on Alex while we can.
We have to decide to vassalize him (very good supply of military) or destroy him (more own land as vassals count only 50% and Alex will keep Saladins cities while Roose would raze them)
