im sorry but this game has to be one of the saddest games ever 2k games should go out of business .they have no concept of what they are doing all those college courses for nothing
2K Games, Firaxis, or Sid Meier? 2K Games published the game -- forced Firaxis into an early release. Firaxis is building the patch, and Sid Meier did not code a single line in the entire project.

Saddest game ever? -- thanks for the drama.

Anyway, the sooner they fix the bug and release it the better.

Do you work for firaxis? How do you know any of this. Usually, when someone is trying to spin something this desperately, it's about politics. It's just kind of wierd when it's about a video game.

You're an idiot.

i downloaded the leaked patch 1.08 from filefront and what can u say, genius at work!
i never had CTD or things like that but the overall performance was bad, but now with the patch it gets ever worst. loadingtimes are increased by 100%, i can now smoke a whole pack of cirgarets and wait for my savegame to load
in 15-20min of loading and even more loading, civilization 4 accomplishs what 1 hour of playing quake 4 does to my pc temperature.

WE CAN I GET MY MONEY BACK?!

PC specs:
Intel 3 Ghz
512 MB RAM
Geforce Ti4200 with 128 MB
on a fresh windows 2000 install
with latest nvidia drivers (81.95)
defragmented partition

im using windows only for playing stupid windows games, bless god for ubuntu linux.

The patch is not ready for prime time. What did you expect? :crazyeye:

what a joke. Let me get this straight, that bugged out piece of garbage you call a game, you made a patch for..which was a bugged out piece of garbage of a patch. Awesome, you guys suck, pure and simple. Dont act like firaxis isnt at fault...you cant pass the buck anymore. I blamed the distrubuter for the first week and a half, but Firaxis should have been on the ball at this point. Its been over a month, and im finding out the patch they have been working on all this time, is infact broken as well and its back to the drawing board.

what a pos this game is, pure and simple. WHERES MY DAMN REFUND....you can take my game back and shove it where your "patch" is. Im extremely displeased, and upset and will never buy a game from this company again after having to deal with this. Its not like i wanted a patch as soon as i opened up the damn box...but wanting it within 3 weeks id say is pretty damn reasonable.

I love the tech support too, the fellow consumer does more for there fellow consumer then the tech support staff...what a poor poor showing all around. It feels like i woke up in a dark alley with 50 bucks out of my wallet and firaxis tattooed on my ***. Ive never been so displeased with a game ever.

Might as well release the patch...so what if i get another bug. Ill gladly take 1 new bug if it means i can sovle 10 old ones. Might as well send over beta patches too...seeing as tho Civ4 is nothing more then a 50 buck beta tests in a box anyway. Actually cant even say that, most betas ive been in looked better then this POS.

I don't understand why people have so much problem taking their game back to the shop if they're not happy with it.

Where you buying from?

The Evil Gameshop?

2/10 for the raging post however. If you don't like Civ IV and you've got it working, take it back it wasn't for you, if you have it and it ain't working then you can't crit the game, just the quality control (and maybe your machine).

Actually, in the end I think I will just point and laugh at your distress :p

but you see, they wont because they don't have to. Most of us have opened the packaging of the software, and most stores will not take opened games except EB and even then it's just for store credit. The majority of Civ players just play Civ, and are not exactly hardcore gamers, so like me, we just bought Civ and have no interest in other games right now.

But thanks to the ways the law works, we can't return opened software. It used to be that game companies incentive for fixing things fast was beacuse that one game was their big debut or big project and if people were complaining a lot and they were slow with patches, they would go out of business because no one would buy more of their software. But now most have corporatized, they have 10-20 projects in the works and they seem to not care nearly as much.

In the US no store will take back software that has been opened, unless there is a physical problem with the medium, and then they only have to give you a replacement.

They will only take back unopened software for up to 15 days or so...and if you purchase it online you have 3 days to send it back, unopened, at YOUR expense.

US law does not favor the consumer.

I am one of the unfortunate users experiencing the "black map problem" which seems to be because my graphics card do not support T&L. However, I still believe/hope that the patch will solve the problem as I am able to see the whole map after revealing all tiles using the worldbuilder tool. Can any of those who actually managed to get hold of the patch tell me and everybody else in the "black map" club whether the patch actually solves the problem or not??
In my opinion, Firaxis should actually have thought of this as they developed the game. Many civilization players do not have high-end computers, but more likley laptops as civilization is one of the few games they actually play.
As for me, I recently tried Age of Empires II on my laptop, and it worked just fine. It seems quite strange civ IV should be so much more demanding...

Have hope! :)

Look in the Tech suport forum. There are a lot of posters who say the patch has fixed this issue for them.

Hey, if you're ranting and flaming, or worse: wanting a refund -- just chill. When the game works it's the best Civ ever -- when it works. Gee, it's just a piece of software and if these guys can't fix it, we should all forget 'civilisation' and learn how to survive in a wilderness somewhere.

Hang on to your Civ4, wait a few days and it'll happen as it always does; they'll fix it and we'll all get back to complaining about the AI cheating or the latest ruse from some guy in multiplayer who's worked out how to take our cities in one move.

Remember the formula: Launch Civ; patches 1 to 20+; expansion pack; patches 1 to 20+; heaps of creative mods; launch next iteration of Civ (circa 2010 CE). We're all students of history, right?

I just installed the 1.08 non-patch and can confirm that it does fix the black map problem...but I do get a pop-up that says my machine is below the minimum requirements to play the game. But I can dismiss the pop-up and continue on to play the game. I think that might be part of the reason they pulled the patch....
