Patch ruins game?

My C3C game is version 1.00 and everytime I try to download a patch for it, it installs fine and when I try to play it I recieve an error saying "Please insert the disc and try again." even if I have the disk in. I'm a little confused as to why this happens every single time I try. Any ideas?

Are you playing Complete or Conquests? Complete comes fully patched, no patches required.
