I finally got a copy of BtS, and sure enough, the Espionage bug/<snip> reared their heads immediately. I quit the game in disgust.

Ok, in Firaxis' defense, this is a wonderfully varied and mostly over-done expansion. But how can you let something this flagrant and game-breaking go unaddressed in the testing stage? I would be less frustrated if this is not a recidivist case. I mean, didn't we have the same scaling oversight affect the appearance of Great Generals in Warlords expansion?

How hard is it to test the damn game at--or even consider implications of various features in--Marathon setting?

Goddamn. Unbelievable.

Some people prefer marathon speed, it's the best. And I believe the patch does not affect this.

if you dont allready have the damn patch then just download it. It might affect it.

The patch does not fix this. The patch only has one change and it has nothing to do with espionage.

On a side note, how many new threads are we going to have on this same subject?!!

I would think that the water poisoning/unhappiness thing could be fixed by simply editing the XML..?

Beyond the Sword\Assets\XML\GameInfo\CIV4EspionageMissionInfo.xml

Find <Type>ESPIONAGEMISSION_CITY_POISON_WATER</Type>
<Type>ESPIONAGEMISSION_CITY_UNHAPPINESS</Type>
(use Ctrl F)

Change <iCityPoisonWaterCounter>8</iCityPoisonWaterCounter>
<iCityUnhappinessCounter>8</iCityUnhappinessCounter>

From 8 to 1
Or just delete the whole EspionageMissionInfo for those 2 missions, it wont mess anything up :)

Dont have to know anything about programming to make little xml changes, just need to open them with wordpad

Dont need bring it down to 1, change it to 3 or 4 is good. On marathon speed if you change it to 3, it becomes -9 happiness or health for 9 turns, 4 you get -12 for 12 turns. I can live with that.

Ok, I will wait for a few days to for patch before I reinstall BtS, and I will try this fix if a patch doesn't arrive.

uh...you guys are being unfair. they release an extensive xpac that as far as we know only has two serious problems so far (espionage bug on warlords and corporation inflation) despite the fact that they added NUMEROUS new features.

i'd say the xpac is a resounding success and they WILL patch the game just like they did with warlords fixing up some things they missed.

they're only human and have limited testers whereas when the game is released MILLIONS of people are playing (and thus testing) it. we are bound to find things they missed, but overall i'd say the game is very smooth.

I doubt millions of people bought this in the first week it came out buddy, and maybe your forgetting that people pay an avarage of 30 bucks or more for this game, they would appriciate it if it was playable

Agreed. The fanboys are really tiresome.
