Patch_174 Problem =_="

Hey I'm trying to play online but it says I need to install patch_174. So I download it with no problems but when I try installing it I get this message

"The setup has detected that no version of civ 4 is installed...........this update requires that a previous version of the application be installed. "

I'm pretty sure Civ is installed....does anyone know how to fix this?

Are you using a CD/DVD version or a downloaded version?

you need to get the patch from them.
they suck in support by the way, you need to search the patch on their site and it is only listed under gold edition (which is already patched to 1.74) - but here you go (why they host this patch on gamespot instead of gamestop.com is beyond me though)

I recieved the same error. I dl the game directly to my computer from fraxis website...trymedia was i think where they directed me.
I downloaded both the directx that it required and the patch from the fraxis website. And still got the same error.
Can anyone help. this is really annoying. Why wasn't the patch included in the game when i downloaded it!!

i cant download the patch...
i have the cd version...
when i go to multi player and log in under my username, it says that i need to download patch_174.
so i press download...
it trys to download for a few seconds....
then it tells me the download failed.
i have looked for a place to download it on the internet, but i cant find a dowload that isn't full of spyware. can anyone tell me where i can find a download for patch_174, that wont destroy my computer from spyware? PLEASE HELP ME!

Hey, i have the cd version of civ Iv, i downloaded Patch_174, and i played multiplayer. But Today, when i went to play multiplayer, it says i need to download Patch_174. Never mind. I just loaded the patch again and it worked. But thanks anyway.
