pathfinder question??

But here's the big question: once promoted by a ruin, does it upgrade from Composite Bow line in the later eras, or does it always remain a bow?

Yes, composite bow upgrades through to end game.

My question about pathfinders has to do with the Ruin upgrades: Do you always get the same options, or is it a randomized list?
I am considering going with them for my first game so I can make an army of uber-bowmen :)

When you select a reward, you cannot select it again for about 3 ruins. Also, the Faith reward is not available for the first 20 turns or so.

You always get the same options until ~20 turns in when you can choose faith. The options disappear from the list after you pick them, but they come back after 3 more ruins.

Edit: Ninja'd

Thanks for the responses guys, that definitely helps with my strategy!

Just like normal scouts, once it's into the archer line, it upgrades as normal - and keeps promotions.

This isn't that much of an addition, but actually you can get 2 faith huts in a row after turn 20, or at least I did in my game. I think it's because the text is slightly different: the first time it said study their religion, or something, and the second time it said a great prophet appears, or something. Between these two things you can easily get 80 faith by turn 25 (you get 20 the first time and 60 the second), which is quite a head start in the religion game.

I never got any more faith huts after that, but I started running out of huts after a while, obviously. So I don't know about repeatedly getting 60 faith, but even so this makes Shoshone competitive with the more traditional religious civs in that sub-game, if you have the right tiles for a faith pantheon. You don't even need shrines!

I wonder why they took out the Explorer from Civ 4
Because it was the most useless unit in Civ 4, so useless people rarely even mentioned it in "worst unit" threads because they used to forget it even exists.

comp bow should upgrade to xbows with ruins, just as it used to be. (scout -> comp bow -> xbow)

(havent tried in BNW yet but it would make absolutely no sense to change this)

Great, I'll be using them a lot then. Upgrade from first ruin and then whatever's best
I like to get one of the Scout specific promotion paths (three levels) finished first and then upgrade. These promotions cannot be had once you upgrade. It is nice to have extra defense/healing or extra sight/movement for your pathfinding archers.

I think pathfinder is too expensive, and should be able to choose the same thing more times. It shouldn't be limited.

I dunno, but I think pathfinder is a little bit underpowered and overrated. Sometimes you barely get 3 ruins.
