Hey!! We have started the new Idea, PBEM/SG!! This is "Team 2" were only members of "Team 2" may look here, (expections of any lurkers, are welcomed to post).

for team discussion: I recommend Persians as civ.

Let me see... Deity, do we need to consider being expansionnist or not ? Not sure... How will we deal with the other team when we find them ? I think being expansionnist would give us a boost in the Ancient Era, maybe we could almost keep up with the AI in tech, so that when we find Team 1, we'll see that they can't keep up with this pace, therefore we will be ahead of them and manage to stay ahead... thanks to the AI's incredible tech pace !

So ? For an expansionnist civ (I always "put them apart", weird trait, the militaristic trait is quite weird too), we could pick up Russians (we'll need to do well with the tech slingshots...), or Americans (industrious, no comment), or whatever... I'd rather go with Russians, as a good UU might be a necessity.
Otherwise, if we choose not to be expansionnist, we could sure pick Persians, or Ottomans (no comment), or Japanese (never tried those), or... or...

I hope Team 1 won't choose the same, in case the game could never start (have you imagined this ?). Hum, we may then go with our 2nd choice.

As for the team leader, mmmh, I'm 1st to play, so... mmmh... hey, do what you want ! But I can do it if you both want it.

I just played a game as Russians earlier, and I think they'd be pretty good here. I pick them.

Now !!! No one else will vote ? So there is only my vote : I vote for myself, and therefore get a Diplomatic Victory in 2003. And Russia is a good choice, I think. If we somehow follow my general strategy above, it would be worth picking them.

I just thought of something. You should have to vote for someone else, or everyone would vote for themselves.

Why do we need a team leader? There are only three of us. I think the one of us with the least amount of posts should be the leader.

I am okay with any of the civs that you all have mentioned. The Russians are fine with me. In my experience with expansionist civs, the more scouts I build early, the better I do. IMO, sedentary barbs and a pangea map make the expansionist trait very attractive.

It's OK for me to choose Russia, so let's go cossacks !!! We'll indeed have the opportunity to get a great start with these settings, so let's be careful to make the right choices in the beginning ; in Deity, the better you start the easier it gets, and more than on other levels.

We agree to vote for someone else ? So my vote goes to Earp, because he posted a simple but helpful comment on our start opportunites. (Earp, please vote for bacon king, so that we go !)

amirsan said why we need a leader in the other thread, I quite agree with him. I have an ADSL connection (still not on my personal computer but at home, still), so I can use a chat program with the other leader if it needs it... I wait for the vote confirmation from Earp, then the leader wins the right to PM the civ we chose to Tsukemono5 (thanks for giving us a map). We could also pick up a name for our civ leader (why not our leader's nick ? or Team2 ?).

@ bacon king : My nick is my first name written differently (very differently) ; I have no connection with whatever East-European countries you can imagine, this is just for a joke.

then we vote again, and go in order of amount of votes we got.

So, as our leader, you have to engage diplomacy affairs with Team1's leader. Also, you can choose whether we will be Civ-called Earp or Team2. Also, you're up to post a "we're ready to play the game, please Tsukemono5, consider our civ and name chosen !" message.

We could organize a vote every 2-3 rounds as bacon king suggests but, to avoid a deadlock, take votes from lurkers ! Everyone here could vote once each time for one of us, what do you think ? Maybe not interesting ?
