PBEM THE GREAT WAR - Div Level

Why Drendor I thought you'd never ask....

The original.....Invisible Man !!

And if you look very closely at my picture to the side you will see him standing in the background where he played Capt. Renault in Casablanca!

I was merely being "cute" insinuating that Luthor is the Invisible Man's alter ego!

hmmph! well i´m just a stupid german and I understand only two things; orginization and war!

so to whom shall I send the austria-hungary savefile?

turn 10 played and sent to Istanbul.

We killed a russian inf and a cav outside Lodz. We also killed two russian cavs in east prussia.

Baltic navy bombarded coast outside Riga

Kriegsmarine bombarded London and nearby coast. Our zeppelins killed a british A-inf and a garrison.

Two units of suicidal commandos hit the beaches and abducted three regiments of british engineers. Our initial target were Navy minister Churchill and Loyd George but they were on vacation in Edinburgh. :crazyeye:

Armygroup Moltke went berzerk east of Nancy and killed a french inf guarding the river Rhine.

We bombarded Rheims, aiming only for schools, churches and marketplaces but this time we hit only troops! Gaah!

I´m still curious how the spy rules works. Last turn I paid 3200 gold when trying to steal techs from an entente player. Only to find out that he didnt have any techs to steal. But I still lost the darn money.
How is one to know if the enemy has techs to steal? Do I have to take a chance?

Biggest question of them all: Since the beginning of this war we have had the knowledge to produce chlorine gas. (bombardment 26, rate of fire 6 and LETHAL  ) We have refrained from using any gas so far eventhough we could have benefited from it immensly during the Verdun siege where ALOT of french troops were badly wounded and would have been very vulnerable to a gas attack.
I dont know if this scenario was created with the intention that the Germans should use this initial advantage but I have felt that it was almost like cheating or like using nukes.

So I´m prepared to continue to refrain from poison gas if we could have an agreement on this... What do you think?

NOOO!!! Use the gas damnit! :p

and no, there is no way you can know if enemy has technologies to steal. You are anyway on of teh superpowers and inventing new techs is much up to you...

It´s hard to be a tech superpower when the techs take 40 turns no matter how much commerce you invest.......

I want to hear the other players opinion on GAS as well.

Having gas in 1914 would not be historically accurate, maybe
the scenario designers can comment on the reason for this, why
don't you post the question on the TGW scenario thread?

You don't know upfront who was what tech.

From what I know of the scenario, Germany starts with the tech lead so Germany stealing techs doesn't seem a good investment. Also I think that the Entente are better at researching because they start behind (thus making time an ally of Entente).

Also you can also steal from your own Allies, so Ottoman and Hungary stealing from the Kaiser could be an idea! :p

It could be interesting to make an agreement INSIDE the game and not OUTSIDE of it.

By this I mean that the Countries (NOT the players) could agree not to use tear gas as a gentlemen agreement. However if some country decided to use it would be considered bad fair play from that country but it would not be cheating from the players part.

Tear gas was a reality in WWI and an intrinsic part of the scenario so I don't think it should be forbidden as a rule. Not being fully aware of the scenario I've also made some bad decisions on unit building (I've actually built more expensive and weaker units than Inf A!)

Interesting to read in on another WW1 game...too bad they always seem to crawl along slowly...

Can anyone post a screenshot? Maybe at least a map of one of the fronts or even just the mini-map?

Gas was at some point part of the deal. Especially when the front got stuck, and no progress could be made, it was used to get the front moving again.
So, for historical and gameplay reasons I don't have a problem with using it.

But if we could agree not to use, I will sign. But then everybody should sign.
And if a country wants to resign they should announce that.
This should be a possibility without a penalty.

Yes and so was the a-bomb, although it wasnt only used to get the front moving again. It got the front to disappear entirely.

The general opinion seems to be it´s ok to use it and we could ROLEPLAY an agreement not to use it if we like.

I also think that if a player DO use gas it MUST be reported in the battle report, not just as bombardment.

It seems a bit early for me. Albeit I think you should be allowed to use it when 1915 starts and all others can then follow (as Germany was the first to use it in WW1 that'd be accurate).

I guess Germany was penalized already because of not using tear gas so far. Also as it is historical, I'd propose to make Loulong's proposal into an actual rule:

- No one uses tear gas until Germany does.

Battles wage between French and German forces from; Reims to Verdun to Nancy to Besancon. The situation is looking very grim as the Germans have slid 30 Infantry and Arty units NW of Verdun and now threaten Reims. Strong stacks of Inf and arty still threaten Verdun and Nancy. French Arty units inflict damage on several units. New german units are starting to build up near Besancon where French forces managed to kill one German Infantry Div without losses. However, the brunt of the German Assualt will probably strike next turn....it will be very difficult to bear it.
