PC.IGN's Civ3 Preview Update: Part II

The more I thought about it -- "Nationalism as a Gov't" -- the more it annoyed me, so I started another thread on the topic:
Nationalism as a New Government ?!?!?!

But I wanted to respond to this post --even though my opinion on the issue is lukewarm at best.

Here're some of my ideas for super-unit penalties: ...

Greek Hoplite - Home city loses 1 population unit until unit is disbanded. No penalty if unit is in fortress within three squares of city or is in city. (The hoplites were actually middle-class farmers who had enough money to purchase arms and armor; thus when they are at home they can still work their fields until it is time to campaign).

I like your reasoning for the Hoplite; but as an alternative proposal, instead of a population point lost, having the hoplite -- as farmer warrior -- consume food like the current settler/engineer (i.e., since they're not growing it, it's not available for a surplus) ...

!pimp! ALL YOUR HASH ARE BELONG TO ME !pimp!

In CivII the scheme is:
Light blue = happy
Dark blue = content
Red = unhappy
Black = Doubly unhappy
Looks like the same will apply to CivIII too.

Perhaps you've never seen the black dudes in CivII? In modern era they look like bikers! I tend to see them only briefly when switching from Fundamentalism to Democracy after having just taken over the world.
