Since eliminating Brennus early on its been a peaceful game for me, alone on my little island:

Astronomy 680ad.
Circumnav 690ad.
[Somewhere during the golden age I built Shwedagon Paya (sic) and adopted free religion which cut down on the religious hostility and with judicious bribes I got open borders with everyone which helped with overseas trade routes until the AIs swopped to mercantilism about 1400ad.]
Philosophy/Taoism 715ad.
Engineering 770ad (for Notre Dame).
Notre Dame 900ad.
Education 900ad.
[Whipped a bunch of unis and got Oxford about 1050ad in bureaucratic capital.]
Economics 925ad (free GM kept on ice for Sushi).
Picked up Nationalism somewhere and got Taj Mahal 1135.
Corporation 1140 [whipped out some banks and got Wall Street about 1300 in Bibracte (shrine city)].
Democracy 1180 (still in Taj golden age and swopped to US for rush-buying and emancipation).
Rifling 1255. Built a few rifles, picked up Miltrad a bit later for some cavalry.
Lib>Steam 1300. No coal!
Railroad 1420.
Statue of Liberty 1420.
Combustion 1438.
[At some point I picked up scimeth which revealed three oil sources on the island. Once I'd got an oilwell I could start building railorads even though I had no coal.]
Biology>Medicine>Founded Sushi in Bibracte (wall street city) 1480.
Communism 1490 (free Great Spy), started building Kremlin to improve cash-rush.
Now researching physics.

Sury is isolated and looks to be going for culture, he's built lots of wonders and nabbed Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Saladin, Jules, Abe and Monte share a continent. Saladin has stayed aloof (and on top of the power chart). Jules, Monte and Abe have been fighting for ages. Abe's lost and has vassalised to Jules. Monte's trailing Jules slightly.
I've got a DP with Saladin and we're friendly so that's ok for now. Jules, Monte and Lincoln hover between cautious and annoyed to me depending on how many arrogant demands I've refused.

I'd have to do something spectacularly stupid to lose this one. Still going for space. Not sure of best route. Industrialism will be the next target for tanks and aluminium. Not sure where to go after that.

I seem to be the only person posting a game here, though not the only person to have played.

I have played to 1500 AD, it seems to be impossible to conquer Khmer. Bring a SoD x another SoD to crush Khmer

Big mistake was not annihilating Sury and pinching his land at a relatively early stage (c 1000ad when I had astronomy and eng). Never expanded beyond my island. Not having more cities definitely slowed down late game research.
