This group is not a political party, nor do we mean to be. ORganizing an officer needn't involve the election in anyway, nor do we wish to involve it. We're politically neutral, and should PEEDS ever try to leave that path, I'll leave and form SPEED (same letters, just rearranged, )

Ok I agree DaveShack. As a complete newbe at this I wouldn't want to commit myself to a strict political structure or let anyone dictate my vote. I hope to find likeminded persons in this citizen group, get informed and I do accept the need for a primus inter pares speaker. We are politically neutral but we do want to see PEEDS implemented though.

Could someone please enlighten me a little about how we are going to promote our P's and E's? What for instance is the role of our Principal Speaker?

Whatever we want to. It's our choice. Basically, I meant PEEDS as a semi-RPG thing, as actually applying these principles wouldn't make sense from a Civ point of view, so whatever we feel like, within the rules of course.

My voting habits within this game will actually underwite these principles. Just a few ideas:

The Pacifism part seems a bit difficult. I'm playing at Monarch level and I have never succeeded in winning without having at least one war. Thank god we got the "in favour of war etc. clause During a war however I almost never raise AI cities which would not be very liberating for its inhabitants in my view... Being able to afford not raising comes with its implications for policy on non military issues as well.

Then we got the E's, hmm environment will only get an issue later on. Just press for enough workers to clean up the mess (pollution is so ugly!!!), fight coal plants and go for the Ecology path rather soon. Equality has more to do with the way our online democracy is organized because indeed within what now seems to become Japanatica I'm sure every citizen counts the same. Maybe in the beginning you could press connecting the new towns as soon as possible since having a capital getting drunk on wines while other backward towns are still sober is not very equal now is it? Even more so because they actually need it more in a forgotten fishing town somewhere

The D and S I haven't figured out yet. Democracy and Communism are my preferred forms of government so depending on the size of our country by then I'd just press for that. Oh yeah and every fascist state around once we're capable!! Oops just joking fellow pacifists it must be the wine.

Ok, well if there are no other candidates for Principal Speaker I suggest we could just go on and proclaim Curufinwe our Principal Speaker. At first I thought it would be nice having an election for it but since we're all equal and an election would divide Peeds in voters and candidates I suppose it suits us just fine like this.

As you rightly say Curufinwe: "a position yet to be defined" so I'm rather curious about ideas. It is really all very basic in my opinion: a function of Speaker implies that the others from that group voluntarily refrain from speaking themselfs at certain occasions. The Speaker has the obligation to make sure he knows the opinion of the group he speaks for and to formulate their opinion as forcefully and clearly as possible. As I stated before though I am so new at this that I wouldn't even know where the hell the Speaker is supposed to speak.

Just a clarification. What does it mean to be a pacifist and favour wars of liberation?

And exactly what do you mean by socialism?

I decided to create a separate group (group of one right now) that is definitely pacifist. While I realize that games played with a militaristic bent get the adrenaline pumping, they don't reflect my personal style. Perhaps, as time goes by and the objectives of PEEDS becomes clearer, I may join, but as it stands I am focusing on the goals of the Edo Faction.

I will join your group. I am a great supporter of socialist values, and nothing is more important to me than protecting the environment from the ravages of the capitalist industrialists. I am a pacifist, as a good samurai should be when not in war, but i will fight in order to free people from capitalism and dictatorship.

I'm a "newbie" but, I would like to join your group. I agree with the principles as expounded on by Globo. For clarification though, do we ever support wars of aggression or preemptive wars? I'd like to see war avoided at all cost until we can guarantee minimal loss of troops. Also I'd like to see a strong push to make sure we have enough workers to clean up pollution before we even build our first factory.
