Peloponnesian War Scenario Development Thread

Clearly something's lacking here. Did you mean "Catania not Catana"?

Have Taras, not Tarentum (I don't know about this, but Taras was a city that refused to help Athens on the Sicilian campaign).

Taras is simply the Greek for Tarentum (which is Latin, the modern, Italian, name being Taranto). The city was Sparta's only colony, which probably explains why they didn't want to help the Athenians.

Catana not Catana

Woops.

As with many other names, it was originally spelled with a "K", and I suggested a "C"

So it should be "Catana not Katana" :o

Louis XXIV, I think the spellings of a couple of your cities should be emended to Apollonia and Oeniadae, otherwise the list is an improvement.
The bit of map displayed looks good Xen. Kudos (or is it Cudos?).
Personally I think Corinth could have been a seperate state. Her territory could have included Leucas, Anactorium, Sollium and Apollonia, all colonies which, unlike Corcyra, did loyally follow the mother city (metropolis). If this scenario goes beyond the Peloponesian war, well Corinth fought against Sparta in the 390s in the Corinthian war.
Ambracia was also a Corinthian colony though stronger and more independent minded than the others mentioned.

Bill, we like your suggestion, but we feel Corinth was such a strong Spartan ally at this time that it may as well have been part of Sparta.:)

BTW, a Katana is a Japanese sword.:)

The scenario is mean to basically cover the Peloponesian war in great detail, and be a mediocre representation of the hegemogeny of Thebes period, and the rise of Makedon ;)

Did we decide on extending it to the Rise of Macedon?:p

LC's right. Peloponnesian War only, please.

I've always assumed the time frame would last this long. Since the game focuses on the Peloponnesian War, however, I wouldn't make this a factor at all, except for some late era technologies and the Macedonian uus.

Oh my, is there some overview somewhere about which civs are in etc? I can't orientate myself here.

around page 36 there's a map by Xen. Look around there and you'll get the map, and find which civs are where.:)

Maybe you should do is what the LOTM team has been doing - start a new thread and sum everything up which has been done and decided, and what needs to be done. 48 pages is a lot, especially when it seems no end is in sight...

Really? Okay...Just gimme some time to recall exactly what we did.:crazyeye:

If you want to, I can try and get you a place to put all the files at CDG as well (you can have as many threads as you want ;) ). This is what the Alexander the Great scenario is doing, and it might be more conveniant (there's nothing stopping the conversation and posting files here, of course).

I'm going to throw a stick in this bicycle wheel.

The only reason you see the Greek versions being spelled with a "K" is because we only have the letter: Kappa. We don't have a "K" and "C". But if you use Greek printed maps of Greece today, you will see the two English letters enterchanged because in this case they make the same sound, at least if you pronounce it correctly. Like Corfu: (Care-foo). Remember to roll the "r". Greeks simply call the island by its original name Korkyra (Care-key-ra). Cephallonica (Ke-fa-low-nee-ka), and it is said extremely fast.

Determining Greek to Latin. Pretty simple: Byzantion (Greek) - Byzantium (Latin). Rheggion (Greek) - Rheggium (Latin).

Of course in some cases the names become distinctly different or have simularities where you sort of have to try to recognize language patterns. Like: Zankle (Greek) - Messina (Italian), Pithekoussai (Greek) - Ischia (Latin). Akragas (Greek) - Agrigento (Italian).

And now for the stick...

Corinthians live in: (Core-een-th-os) not Corinth. We have never called it Corinth, we still don't. Corinthos. remember to use the "K" sound like in "Caca" HAHA and always roll your "r" or the Greek teacher will paddle everyone in the class. Oh wait, I'm in America, phew!
