Probably because you dropped it directly into your civilization3\art\units folder.
It is pathed to be in a scenario folder..... when it is in a scenario folder, to play the carrier run sound, it (the civ3 game engine) has to go back about six folders to get to the original civ3\art\units folder.
So if you were to drop this unit into, say, the Pentagenesis folder, it would work. However, if you were to drop it in there with your .ini file, it would crash, because it would go back one folder, look for the carrier folder, not find it, and crash.
(Actually, there is a carrier folder in the Pentagenesis folder, but it has no files at all except an .ini, which links to the graphics and sounds of the original carrier. In this case, the .ini would link back to the folder, not find any carrierrun.wav, and crash)
