Performance improvement?

So i have gone around and read like almost all the threads everywhere on improving the performance of civ5 but it is still slower than what i'd want it to be. I know my system is very old(i5 2nd gen with integrated gpu and 8gb ram) but is there any method to improve the game performance? also there was this thread which talked about converting the textures with some skyrim mod which i tried but the game wont start after that and i had to redownload from steam.

Civ 5 is a very system demanding game. It's the only game to cause my laptop to overheat. (and it would run Skyrim no problem)

Though I don't know why, I think it's to do with the insane amount of calculations the game does everytime you hit end turn. Though someone who knows more that me can probably give a better answer.

Turing on quick combat and movement helps with long turn processing. I assume you already turned your graphics settings down to the lowest.

One setting you might want to try is the "textures by video card/cpu" one. Noticed it makes an large difference depending on your system setup. Though I find it can cause tile update delays if set one way (can't recall which on it is) it definitely allows for better overall performance.

Note though, I currently own a beast of a system, and still find Civ 5 has weird performance issues.. probably because it's still a 32 bit game.

already have the mod and actually its not the turn times that bother me.
its the lag in the UI like when i click on something it takes time for the action to register. Like adding an item to a queue. I have noticed that zooming in helps. Also is there anyway to make civ5 use the entire ram available rather than just 4gb?

I get this as well when adding things to a queue. Nothing to do with your setup, because again, I have a beast of a system.

I find it's just a display delay, if you click you can exit and it still adds it to the queue.

I remember there used to be a hack for civ4 and civ3 where using CFF explorer you could make it use more memory but i cannot do the same the civ5. Sad :(

I find Civ 5 being 32 bit to be really frustrating. I have a fairly beefy computer for Civ V and my game still crashes because it can't use more than 4gb of ram.

Has anyone really given this a shot? Does it have an improvement with VP?

It looks like it was designed for systems with low vram. The only improvement it would make is faster loading of map tiles at initialization.

It won't make any difference to your fps.

I would be very happy if my game opens up faster also. it currently take around 1 or 2 mins to get to the main screen then another 2 mins for the mod to load and then another minute for the game to start.

make sure pc is getting enough cooling. do you have use a stock cooler or custom cpu cooler? 90% of time stock coolers arent good enough to cool cpu under 100% load and so the cpu will throttle itself dramatically, i use custom cooler and leave the side of my case off 24/7

and is your game installed on a ssd or hdd? ssd will provide big boost to loads

That is not true. CPUs spend a lot of time under 100% load, and if the cooling doesn't handle this then the pc shuts down very quickly.

Are you getting confused with overclocked CPUs? They will normally require more than stock cooling.

its been my experience stock coolers aren't good enough for 100% load over period of time and will throttle the cpu speed to remain cool.

yes the safeguard is that it will turn itself off if it gets too hot, but it will throttle itself first before that, decreasing performance system wide

it may never reach turn off temperature and just throttle the whole time, which i have witnessed.

also make sure you buy some quality thermal paste
