We have tried a MP game with the option "permanent alliance". But how does it work in the game? First I though I got have an alliance with a player just from the beginning of the game, second I thought I could do an alliance in the game...but it was not possible.
Thanks for your help.

Police state and communism can get your permenant alliance. it is hard to get the AI to join you though.

Question: can you form permanent alliance with more than 1 civ? In my game, the Mongols and British have join together.

Permanent Alliance is a diplomacy option, just like Open Borders or Defense Pact. It's a bit wonky, though, once an AI refused to join me in one because I was too powerful... don't quite see the logic.

EDIT: But, I don't know which tech it is, precisely.

Just to answer my own question, I just made permanent alliance with 3 other AI civs, we joined together as a block. 3 opposing civs joined another block against us. That was interesting, but comes way too late. I will modding the game to make this availible earlier.
I was playing a game with 18 civs.

Guys, guys, guys: The permenant allience is made BEFORE the game actually starts. My best friend and I play that setting non-stop since Civ4 came out. It's great: any tech you get, they get, and visa-versa. Seeing each other's maps/units is done from the get-go also. Just check the settings, and make sure you and your friend are on the same team (both #1 for example), and your joined at the hip for the life of that game :goodjob:

I believe you're referring to a "Locked Alliance" game, which IS a starting option.

But there is the Diplomacy option of establishing a permanent alliance with another Civ later in the game. I don't know if more than two Civs can establish a PA, although players have already said in this thread that you can.

I just formed permanent alliance with Egyptians. I can see why it's disabled by default. Very powerful. Oh, and the tech required was Communism. I think Facism allows it too, but can't remember it for sure right now.

In my last game, there were 17 civs, (Americans were knocked out early on), 4 of them, me, Rome, Japan and Spain joined as a block, while England, Monoglia and Greece formed another block. It was really interesting. Felt like WW2 or cold war.

I have been having trouble here as well. I cant even get it as an option in the diplomacy screen. Someone above said communism and police state do you have to have those civics to do it. BTW I have the tech for it because I have all the techs right now so that isnt the problem.

But have you allowed for permanent alliances to be formed at all.
i have only played customs, and if i remember correctly u have to check permanent alliances for them to be made in game.

In main menu, click on 'custom games', there you can check 'permanent alliances'.

AIs should actively seek permanent alliances though, as this will present challenge to the human player.

If you check "permanent alliance" and get the tech and form one, I'm guessing you can NEVER cancel it, can you?
