Occasionally, the Internet on all of the computers in our house goes down (but with IRC, and Email intermittently working). I've suspected Comcast for awhile, but now I think it's something with my sister's laptop...
My computers (both of them) were working fine this evening (Internet was on for hours...) until my dad plugs in the laptop in our kitchen. *BOOM!* Internet goes down. I turn off my two computers, AND unplug the cable, and the laptop Internet connection is working!
Here's my setup:
Comcast Cable enters our basement and feeds into a router (linksys). The cable splits into 3 areas: basement, kitchen, and my room.
Kitchen - This is where the laptop is (my sister's computer).
My room - The cable comes through my room, and enters a hub, which my two computers connect to.
Now, I tried to reproduce this (my sister's laptop was on after I used the Internet), and it didn't work to that effect. (I wonder if I need it on for awhile).
My origanal thought was some network conflict bewteen the computers (atleast the old Win98 one, and the laptop - WinME, but, those are the only 2 that see each other on the network... the WinXP Pro PC doesn't like the other two.).
Now I'm thinking that, possibly, it could be a myriad of trojans and virsues my sister has on her computer. Could that do something to the network?
