Pitboss BTS: The Angry Barbarians

Crap, I can't extend the timer... Is there some way to do it? I might have to reload the whole turn then.

For DanDRidge, being on GMT+2, it's nearly 11pm now, I'm not sure is he'll be able to play his turn by the time the 3h30 time runs out.

This is a tricky situation, and I'm going to bed. So what I'll do is hope DanDRidge will be able to play his turn before the timer runs out. If you can't, DanDRidge, can you tell me if you playing the 1960 turn is important? If yes, can you tell me of an hour you can play your turn tomorrow? BS_Prophet, if I do a reload around the time DanDRidge tells me, can you play (again, I'll do another reload) your turn within 3 hours of that time?

In the worst case, I'll do a complete reload of the 1960 turn tomorrow morning, and everyone will have to play their turn again.

edit: oh wait, now that BS_Prophet played his turn, I have a save, so I don't need him to play his turn after DanDRidge's turn.

i'll log in now and pause it
hopefully there isn't any diplo window waiting for him and he'll be able to unpause it

I'm going to be away tomorrow on another trip (work this time, not vacation..).

However, while I was away on the last trip my civ was victim to a (successful) rush so I'm now down to a single size 1 capital which I suspect is about to be shortly under seige. The options are so limited at this point that I'm just going to turn it over to AI this time instead of asking rolo to sub for me again.

I'll take it back over again on jan 20th if my civ is still alive.

Anyway, well played DanDRidge. :goodjob: You timed the rush just right.. (we were 1 turn away from our first chariot).

Cheers,
Munro

I will have to reload the current turn (950 BC) because DanDRidge double-moved on me, but fortunately, nobody's affected since DanDRidge and me are the only one who played yet.

Sorry, I was shortsighted in my deduction.

Now, to make things worse, I can't seem to be able to connect to the reloaded game (I've decided to re-reload the save I made just before the reload). Can anyone connect?

I don't get it. I tried restarting the server, and I still can't connect. CivStats is working though, weird. I gotta go now, but I'll try to fix it later today.

Ok, I really don't get it. Anyone has experience in troubleshooting pitboss connection problems? Anyway, I'll try to contact my VPS support to see if they have a clue. Meanwhile, sorry, the game is paused.

Still trying to solve the problem with my VPS's support. A few more days of this and I'll look for a new one.

Sounds like it might be a firewall issue (or security policy) on your VPS...

You could try restarting the pitboss app. using a different network port e.g. 2060 or even something well defined like port 8080 (HTML) which might be more likely to be allowed... You can edit this in the BtS .ini file. Then try reconnecting with :2060 (or :8080) at the end to see if you can get through that way..

Also try a traceroute to the destination to make sure there's a valid route to it through the internet..

Finally, if you're able to run hamachi on the VPS, you could see if that works. From the description of the problem, that would most likely work around the problem too.. (outbound connections from VPS work fine for civstats, inbound connections don't work).

Not sure how familiar you are with IP etc so apologies if the above is all stuff you've tried already.. this is where I'd start though.

I have already tried with different ports to no avail. To make sure the server is reachable, I started IIS. If you put civ.hardcoded.net in a browser, you see a page served by IIS. I really don't understand.

I haven't tried the 8080 port though, but since pitboss uses UDP, I don't think it matters (because it TCP 8080 that is often used).

The VPS support hasn't been very helpful. I am soon going to look for another VPS.

Oh, the traceroute isn't reaching... That's interesting. I'll send that to the VPS support...

After I sent them the failing traceroute, they finally got to say "I'll escalate the issue to someone with a clue". Maybe there is hope after all.

Yeah, but I don't want to have to keep a computer up all the time. I'd rather have a VPS. I'm letting the support the time to come back to me, then if they fail, I get another VPS.
