Plains turning desert?

Part of "End of Winter" or something else?
Just curious, my starting location got slightly worse

Yes, that is part of the end of winter.
Plains & grass turn to tundra, tundra to ice and deserts to plains. Then they slowly turn back.
Only the tiles with some features do not do it.
So, if you selected end of winter and there is a lot of featureless plains around, be prepared for a lot of sand later.

How are Flood Plains handled in End of Winter? I guess I could try an arid EoW map for myself.

I guess desert+floodplains tiles remain as they are since EoW does not affect tiles with features.

That' right. The standard End of Winter option only affects the terrain of plots without features or improvements. If you want more than that, than I recommend to use the Enhanced End of Winter option coming with FlavourMod or Fall Further (more up to date).

Sounds nice but I'm currently in love with the BarbarianCiv and start as minor tribe components of FiRe. Meh, those should be standard options in vanilla
