Tested it a bit... I get this one repeatedly:

Got it turn 20ish with Gaians the last time. Was building a former (still 40ish turns until finishing - jungle start).

I think this one isn't listed yet.

Cheers, LT.

Those are some huge spore launchers. o.O The game crashed when I tried to attack them. D:

It's so awesome to once again hear some of the sounds of the original game. Like the voice that announces things. ^^

Unfortunately, I don't think it's the size that's responsible. I seem to get a CTD everytime i try to attack any unit which engages in Psi combat(i.e Mindworms and such). If I defend then it seems to be fine but it's really taking away from the enjoyment if I cant attack those pesky things without incurring a CTD.

Otherwise, I really enjoy the feel of this mod and I dont seem to have encountered any other problem.Great work:goodjob: .

Same problem here: CTD when attacking psi creatures.....

Besides that the mod looks particulary good for a alpha ( hopefully the reskinks of units and civilopedia will be better in the beta )

Still looking for help? don't know any coding, but can play test and offer ideas. (Yeah, I know those are the hards that are really hard to fill ;*)

Thanks! (I guess you don't have a save of right before getting this assert? :hope: )

You can hear some more stuff (tech quotes) if you copy your SMAC voices folder into the Planetfall sound folder.

Weird. Attacking psi units wasn't causing problems in my test. Anyway, I'll hopefully upload a patch with among other stuff (sealurk & spore launcher gfx etc) improved psi combat coming weekend, so hopefully that'll fix it for you guys. If not, please report back then. :D

Still looking for help?

Always.

You've got a whole forum for you right here. :goodjob:

Btw, what do you guys think about the song that plays when starting a new game? Does it fit for Planetfall, or should I throw it out again?

@The Reckoning:
Hmmm - I like that. Nice sci-fi feel. :D

My 2 cents would just be to tone down / greatly reduce the number of laser and explosion sounds.
They make the audio more interesting for just listening, but in a game, they can be a little distracting, imo.

This is me: <playing along>... * waaa! What? Something blew up! What happened? … oh. It's just the sounds

Anyway. I like the general feel of if for sure  nice job!

Wow – what a cool idea :salute:

If you decide you want some voice acting for any tech quotes that don't come from the SMAC game – let us all know. I would personally be happy to submit some readings.

I'm no expert voice actor by any means, but I think I do a fair CEO Morgan impersonation… for a white guy :)
I'm sure others here would be willing to contribute also… and you could pick the voices you like the best.
Just an idea :hatsoff:

Here's some ambient music I made. Make more?

You can make music too?
Sounds cool :goodjob: - is it downloadable? :mischief:

Hmm, personally I didn't have that impression while listening to it. But perhaps it could be used for for instance the Spartan city ambience? That way, while in a base screen, you can't think you're being attacking by some unit on the map. (If we want, it's possible to give each faction or group of factions its own soundtrack - though it would require some modifications in the CityLSystem which I can't do :scared: )

Thanks for the offer. :) Haven't got any plans in that direction though at the moment - we can see at a later stage of development.

Just looks a bit out of place in a small colony, IMHO.

I was thinking I could make a track each for the 7 diplomacy screens. There's a large dump of sounds which were never impimented in the game, like the marcato and drumkit sounds on the SMAC disc, in the fx folder.

What do you think of this?

It's some Bach done with digital scifi[ish] instruments. Zak listens to Bach in the journey story, so maybe it's fitting?

Eh, no. Next time I get to play Civ again (stupid uni - as in studying, not as in Zakharov), I'll save every round, perhaps I can get you guys something useful.

Cheers, LT.

The Zak one is really nice. But maybe a little too sedate? This is the kind of music I used to listen to in college to go to sleep in the noisy dorm!

That said – I like the file very much… it's got a mysterious hopeful quality to it. Maybe it'd be a good background ambiance track for the early game?

The "droom" file would be great as a Spartan diplomacy and/or Spartan City screens, I think.
In fact, as a general comment, I like the idea of having your own diplomacy music play in your city screens. It always kind of seemed a bummer to me that you never get to hear your own civ/factions sound theme if you were playing them!

Personally for base screen sounds I'd prefer some music which is pleasing to listen to often, not some general background ambience. I'm kind of a micromanager, so I spent lots of time in city screens, and as a consequence have gotten VERY annoyed with Civ4's default city ambience. I think I'd quickly get very annoyed with the ambience you posted in this last post too. So personally I'd consider something like post #230 a much better choice for base screen music than post #237.

I know what you mean. I have the ambiance disabled. Especially bad if you leave the city selected at the end of the turn and it plays over defense.

I've layered Zak's music over some sound.
Better?

Or I could whip up something similar to the Spartan's, with some more positivish/sciency bits of melody, rather than a constant minuet, which I imagine could become quite grating.

I think some church choir is obvious for Miriam
Morgan's I imagine as baroque or violin type music
For Yang's I might use some Eastern guided meditation type music. Lots of silence and temple

Not sure about the Gaians and Peacekeepers

Also, are the Gaian citysets going into the next version?

Is it codable, to have each faction with its own city ambiance?

...

Also, are the Gaian citysets going into the next version?

Only if Rubin does it or we find additional people who understand CityLSystem (always useful to have more people around).
