Planetfall

Atomic gamer works great. I haven't had a chance to play Planetfall much, but I know that when taking buildings out of it for my mod I had to change the paths to the dds in the nifs since many of them were absolute paths to the artists hard drive.

Can you give an example of this?
Do they refer to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\etc... ?

I recently changed the mod's folder name from 'Planetfall' to 'Planetfall v7', but it didn't seem to have caused any problems.

Edit: then again, my development folder is called simply 'Planetfall', so I wouldn't notice such issues I assume.

Stufff like

C:\Documents and Settings\snydert\My Documents\My Pictures\factory.dds

Aerospace complex
Maintenance Bay
Recreation Commons
Assembly Hall

Not the ones in the fpk, the ones in Art/Structures/Buildings. By some magic, they look fine in the game.

Patch v7f has been released. This patch needs to be installed on top of the version 7 main file.
It will break savegames from earlier patches.
Reason for this minor patch is the crash mentioned in point 4.

Changelog:

1. The Ruins landmark has been added. Graphics by GeoModder.
2. Edited Gamefont.tga, by Teodosio.
3. Helium resource visible from the start.
4. Fixed crash due to perimeter defenses in barbarian bases.
5. Unity Observation Bay will reveal Unity pods.
6. 'Stealth' special ability makes Submarine invisible while at full health.
7. 'Deep Radar' special ability allows you to see Stealth units.
8. 'Hidden' promotion makes Native Life invisible in fungus.
9. 'Resonadar' special ability allows you to see Hidden units.

Planetfall, or at least this patch, is brought to you by:

awesome mod, looks really good, keep it up,

i was wondering where i could see if the leaders or factions hav individual traits like in the original SMAC. i looked in the xml info files and it seemed like all i saw was that the spartans get disciplined for free on units. are any other civs/leaders differentiated and where can i look to see those differences?

thanks

i think i answered my own question... is that what the various government office buildings are for?

tougher on espionage
20 percent science
10 percent production

etc.

Yes. Some things are probably easier to code and implement this way. Also the Hive and the Gaians have e.g. access to a special civic column, enabling pop/cash-rushing.

Maybe I am leading a charmed life, maybe not, but I have been able to continued with Saved Games after various updates?

Now has this been addressed? My aquaformers are Trawlers and the "Isles of the Deep" are Galleys? I would obviously hope for some updates to such ikons after the originals. There are some quite good ikons following the original game but these don't really come up to the mark, IMHO. Not that I wish to appear dog-in-the-manger as I bought Civ IV so I could play Planetfall.

Live long and prosper.

I intend to move these effects to traits eventually. But it's kinda low priority.
Ideas for cooler faction effects always welcome btw.

Weird. Are you sure you are playing the latest Planetfall v7? :mischief:

New models have been added in a recent patch. So if you don't see them, this might be an indication your patching is somehow not working properly.

Many thanks for your response, Maniac.

I read each time that your new Mods are "breaksaves" but they aren't for me. ??? I have been able to carry on the thread of earlier games and mods, somehow.

This is the problem, though. If all your new mods are "breaksaves" I may as well leave it six months or so and then adopt the latest mod and start again.

I emphasise that I do not wish to appear "dog in the manger", really appreciate your efforts and bought Civ IV specifically for the Planetfall mod.

BTW, what might help. Can you please do a "melee" option, as in MOO3, so you can choose your faction and then program a set number of moves ahead to reach a more mature point for game-playing. I love that in MOO3!

Which, together with you saying you still have IoDs as galleys, leads me to suspect you are somehow playing without the latest patches.

How do you load Planetfall? From within vanilla Civ4, using the shortcut?? In any case, the mod to use is called 'Planetfall v7' these days, not 'Planetfall'.

I'd suggest just finishing whatever game you are playing, and then apply the latest patch before starting a new one.

Don't know MoO3, but isn't that already included as doing an Advanced Start, or starting in the Expansion Era. Note that I haven't tried doing this myself (yet), so not sure how well that will work.

Thanks for your response, Maniac. I have been loading the Planetfall MOD and the saves I have made. That is all I can really say.

Thanks also for the advice for an equivalent to the MOO3 "melee option".

I had actually returned to this thread for another query, if you will bear with me. I would like Planetfall "Worldbuilder" to include an option to include increasing Gold, is that already possible and have I missed something? I just didn't see the option when I was playing the game just now.

is there a way for me to change the light blue text (like when u scroll over something and all the info text shows up in the bottom left) to a different color like white. sometimes the blue bugs out my eyes

thanks

Oh, I remember you now. Aren't you the guy who installed Planetfall to his CustomAssets folder? The patches (and the main mod too of course) install to the BtS/Mods folder, so you must be playing with an unpatched version 7. Or perhaps even an older version.

You can change your gold reserves in the City Edit box.

Alas, I know very little about the graphical interface. Can't help you. :(

Actually, Maniac, and thank you , btw, for being patient with me, I had just logged on to ask, how do I know that I have actually modded the game? When I saw your thread above. Does it say so anywhere where I enter the Planetfall scenario that I am in MOD so and so? I noticed that when I bring up the Planetfall sceniario, amongst others, it just says Planetfall. Maybe, all this time I have been playing an unmodded game?

Yeah, if it only says 'Planetfall' (in the upper right corner), you're playing version 6 or earlier. These days, the up to date mod says 'Planetfall v7' in the upper right corner of the main screen.

Anyway, I don't remember why you wanted to install Planetfall to your CustomAssets folder. I would of course recommend to install it in BtS/Mods.

If Planetfall is the only way you play Civ4, you can go into BtS/CivilizationIV.ini and change 'Mod = 0' to 'Mod = Mods\Planetfall v7' IIRC. Or you could copy the 'Launch Planetfall v7' shortcut in the BtS/Mods/Planetfall v7 folder to your wallpaper/desktop.

This would need to be redone when version 8 comes out.

K... Maniac, many thanks for the response; I shall let you know how I do.

You see, I was just relying on clicking on the Mods and they would know where to go! Foolish me! :(

Live long and prosper.

I obviously have some problems, Maniac. I can see "Planetfall" in the top right of my screen on entering the game but no version number. I have installed Planetfall 7 to the Mods folder and also the f version but I am still no wiser as to whether I have updated my game to start the latest version! :(

Delete everything from your CustomAssets folder, and try again.

If it still doesn't work, perhaps you should make some screenshots as to how you start up Planetfall.
