:goodjob: Amen, same on my site. ;)

Slight problem, Maniac. Trying to download your latest patch requires me to register with a site that it appears physically impossible to do so! I can't see what I am typing as I am trying to register! Please advise! :(

In fact, I would congratulate you, Maniac, you have posted your latest update on a site on which you can't register whether you are a spammer or a bona fide SMAC enthuisiast - the latter of which I claim to be! :(

Apologies for being tetchy but I have, against all my expectations, manage to register with the website and download the latest patch! And I look forward to more of them!

Live long and prosper, Maniac! :)

It seems you haven't found the right way to download without registering. I've downloaded the latest two patches without the need to register. ;)

The panes in which you had to put your details... they made what you typed invisible! And I tried three times just to download! :(

You don't have to register at my site to download. ;) I am sorry if you had problems of some kind! We never prevent guests from downloading, forcing a person to register is against my code of website ethics  Someone registers to store files on my site, contribute to the community forums etc.

I don't see why you would have problems registering, possibly check your spam folder for the validation email, or why you expected it to fail?

We just installed our new default theme yesterday, there are no panes on my site that hide what you type, if there are any, its a glitch, I need to find out about it and fix it. :) Our new theme shouldn't have this issue at all.

If anyone is having problems please feel free to contact me, it is important to me guests or members are able to do things without issues. (We are working fast as possible changing the layout of our site to make it easier to upload files navigate the site etc. 1 click button upload from any page, Mod files, images, videos etc. A little like File Front setup but on our software. :D One of our older themes I recall did have this dumb ass yellow blotch where you typed info. We fixed that though long ago, not sure why you are having this problem. We have had close to 2000 downloads since we opened our new site in Feb. Planetfall and Fall from Heaven II are the top downloads, rest are Sins of a Solar empire with a mix of patches.

Game Fanatics will keep working on our interface to better serve the needs of the public, especially everyone on CFC, my favorite place to visit for all my Civ related needs. :D (content mostly since hardly files are stored on this site server it seems)

Maniac I had no issues at all with the patch, no crashes at all. I'm going to start another game right now, I will first read messages to find out exactly what the crash was that the patch was made for, so I can see if it happens again. Duplicate same situation if possible. :crazyeye: Your Mod is awesome but now I long for a remake and sequel for SMAC. :p

Thanks for your reply, Kitsune. The panes to which I am referring were in yellow and whenever I tried to type anything I couldn't see what it was!

Live long and prosper.

Patch v8c has been released. This patch will break games started under the previous patch.

Changelog:

1. Empath specialist button added, by Buster's Uncle.
2. Lots of building buttons, by Teodosio.
3. Spawning Spots can't exist adjacent to each other. This time for real.
4. A 'new' Research process has been added. It converts one mineral into one science beaker.
5. Stockpile Energy now converts one mineral into two credits. However it can only be used to pay base and unit maintenance costs.
6. Every special ability a unit has now increases unit maintenance costs by more or less half a credit. The exact number varies with the difficulty level.
7. Inflation has been removed.
8. The Hovertank can move across Cliffs (that is, between Ridges and Lowlands/Water).

For more background on the changes re inflation & maintenance costs, read this thread.

Cool I will install this patch right away check it out. "We Play Civ" is that your website Maniac?

We are gearing up to start reviewing Mods for games, Civ IV mods will be first, due to my knowing the series and game so well. There will never be a time we give a Mod a bad review, we will offer suggestion, rate the originally work, graphics, game play, etc. Hoping it will help Mod Designers become known for their work more. Get more people playing these FPS games to give Civ IV a shot.

I have a lot of motivations, off topic now, thanks for your hard work Maniac! (Great scores in our arcade by the way )

Okay looks like a day of Planetfall

I know I am being a bit dog-in-the-manger here because I really appreciate your enhancements, Maniac, but it would be nice if all these MODs didn't break games. :(

Still, many thanks for all your work to improve the game. :)

Live long and prosper.

"We Play Civ" is that your website Maniac?

Nope, it's a new website by some former Apolyton stuff. Basically everyone who I know from the last ten internet years posts there.

(Great scores in our arcade by the way )

I'm addicted to Chaotic Reversal. :(

Sorry but impossible. That's the nature of modding.
You can always finish your ongoing game before applying the the latest patch.

Sorry, Maniac. Like I said, I really, really appreciate the enhancements! More power to you! :)

It is just that, sucker for MODS that I am, it is always a Hamletian struggle for me to decide whether it is worth carrying on or I want to try the new features! :(

I feel for ya, I am the same way. Though I am personally beta testing Maniac wonderful Mod, it thrills me to no end playing his Mod! I loved SMAC and SMACx, I was beta tester for both, in tight with the entire team, miss those days.

I played till I fall asleep at my keyboard literally Maniac  I posted in the Planetfall Lounge about it a bit on my site. Damn you for making Civ IV more addictive then it is. :crazyeye:

Oh I still from time to time, when attacked my isle of the deep or a mind worm, no attack sounds are heard at all from my unit or the native life. (Maniac has a support thread at my site too, he seems to spend many hours in our arcade.) Thanks Maniac you made my gaming so much fun with this Mod. :goodjob:

Kitsune,

I am sooo grateful for Maniac providing a MOD of SMAC for SMAC but what would be preferable is updating SMAC and SMAC-X to the latest OS and processors. The old game is still so atmospheric. But as far as I can tell from what I have read on the fora, no one has created that MOD as yet. The old SMAC-X, as far as I understand, is just unable to handle the increased number of units and the increased processing power available to modern home computing. If and when Maniac, and maybe he is on the way to that, can make the Civ IV Planetfall as atmospheric as the original then the spell will thankfully be broken for me.

It would help if people could pinpoint what exactly is according to them "the SMAC atmosphere".

1) The tech/fac quotes
2) The diplomacy texts
3) ... ?

A good question, Maniac, and not easy to answer. Not in terms of programming. But here are some thoughts.

The music, for one thing. I would like just the original SMAC music background, particularly for the Peacekeepers, which I always played. But the Civ IV music intrudes.

Also the Civ IV diplo Planetfal doesn't seem as "in your face" as in the original SMAC. Now that was something I originally found most annoying but now I realise I miss.

I like the more sophisticated building icons for Planetfall but prefer the terrain and unit icons of SMAC - though once again, Maniac, I thank you most sincerely for Planetfall. It is the reason why I bought Civ IV - I have never been interested in earth-bound strategy games. I realise you had to bring Planetfall out of the Civ IV matrix and you have done marvellously well so to do.

Live long and prosper.

SMAC music was generated according to events in the game by the game code so it will be hard to replicate. :(

Copying over the SMAC audio (as mentioned in the first post) helps a lot.

Alas, what Jack says is true. The peacekeeper loop is played during diplomatic contact with Lal though. It's at least something.

What do you mean with "in your face"?
Yeah, I know, another hard question to put your finger on.

Terrain icons, what do you mean?
With unit icons, do you mean for instance the current Planetfall hovertank button?
