I've been reading the threads about the countless hours lost to the civ addiction. In order to make myself feel less guilty, I was wondering if anyone else neglects their job as well as the family?

sometimes I go in Civilization "tears" where I play a bunch, usually I end up "getting my fill" for a while and am more reasonable about it for some weeks thereafter. I never play at work though.

I've been reluctant to install it at work for that very reason. I'd never get anything done.

I had to uninstall it from my office computer. I put Conquests in when I first got it and after playing for awhile I realized that I'd been playing for close to three hours and hadn't got a darn thing accomplished! Except wipe the Aztecs and Incas from the face of the Earth! :goodjob:

I knew I'd be in serious trouble if I kept that up, so I uninstalled it and now just spend my time here on this site. ;)

I can't install Civ at work but I do surf here when on the job. Also, when I'm at work, I print color copies of my game maps and steal thumb tacks and foam core board so I can plot out where my Settlers are going when I get home.

I play a little Civ at work when things are slow.:mwaha: Once, I even had to come in and work a few hours on the weekend to make up for time I lost on a huge world war!! A cry for help? Prolly.

I cannot install any games at work (probably a good thing! :D ), so I spend my time here, instead.

Most days I probably spend more time here than doing my actual job. But then, my job is rather "episodic": hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer panic! :crazyeye:

I'm with you Padma, I can't install games at work either, but I certainly spend hours looking at various things on this site. To answer the original question, it's only my family that gets neglected (for hours on end).

I would play at work if my PC screen wasn't visible by my boss. :(

Maybe this is a good thing!

Same here, can't install games at work. One time I took one of our work laptops and installed CIV III on it. Then I hid in an empty office and played for awhile. I realized my addiction folly, and returned things back to normal.

I do surf this site when I'm bored. It's only a matter of time til' the firewall stops me....

*nods to MMregent* I go through phases as well where i neglect sleep, family, etc. then I stop for a bit, try a new game or do something else.

playing at school just wont happen yo...

I used to play CIV 1 at high school. We would place it in a directory that needed a "CD [ASCII CHARACTER LIST]" to access it. The teacher had no idea on how to access or delete the directory. Plus we made it hidden and was only caught when he found us playing it and demanded we delete it. So we did :D

Just the other day (and it is no problem).

Blimey, I cant even surf the net at work! If I even attempted to install any peice of software, I'd probably end up with a P45 on my desk the following morning (translaiton: I'd get the sack!). It is a good job though, if we were allowed to play CivIII at work no work would get done, which seems to be the general concensus.

I've tried to install Civ3 at work and found the computer just doesn't have the grunt to run it. It does meet all of the minimum requirements, but still won't work. So I come here and spread spam all night.
