Play Civ 5 for its merits?

What game have you been playing for the last decade?

Because that's exactly what I expect from Civ games.

And that's always what I was hoping would be removed ever since I started playing Civ back in ye olde Civ II days.

It's the age old battle of Micro versus Macro.

Personally, I'm with the latter.

Unfortunately you're right... I didn't feel like taking the time to download it and instead just trusted the reviews. I loved Civ IV and figured Civ V would only improve on that. I guess next time around I won't make the same mistake.

Same here....I relied on the fact that the Civ franchise has produced over 20 years of excellent strategy gaming.

The game didn't need a completely fresh start, it needed refining...and that is what a heck of a lot of people were expecting.

It's a Ferrari with a Fiat Punto engine .. Name is there and it looks good but you are well advised to keep your enthusiasm on a tight leash when on the road.

Civ5 alludes to it being a direct descendent of Civ4, yet it has much more in common with that console/portable version Civ:Rev. It should have been called Civ:Revolution II.
