I was wondering. Are we still advised to do the Play Now! to clear the cache/etc. before going to a custom game? Secondly is that something that's not going to change?

One last question, loading a save from launcher then going into Custom.. will that work?

The reason you are advised to start an initial Play Now game is not to clear the cache, but to clear saved options. This is ONLY an issue if you are switching to RifE from another mod (or another mod from RifE, or one mod from another in general), as saved options are saved by position, not name. Causes issues with hidden options.

Loading a save will not work; You must actually start a game in order to clear saved options. Next version of the launcher will have an ini backup feature, which can be used rather than starting a play now game, aside from the initial time.

Basically: Run a play now game, exit the game, open up the launcher, hit 'edit ini', hit the box to backup your ini, and then you're good. Next time you switch back to RifE from another mod, simply open the launcher, hit 'edit ini', and select the 'load from backup' option for the ini file. Since saved options are stored in the ini, they are now wiped.

Play now is advised to clear options from other mods, ergo it shouldn't be necessary is you've been playing RIFE 1.31 exclusively. Obviously if you have weird issues that could be a result of a custom game option being checked, not being able to get a certain religion for example, you need to use play now to reset the custom games options. No idea if it's changeable I'd guess not.

Probably not. Essentially the problem, as I understand it, is that there are custom game options checked that appear unchecked. So if you're only playing RIFE you should only need to use play now each time to patch.

Edit: Damn Hamster Ninjas.

Can Rife modules cause problems with the options ? For example, if I've played a few games of Fall Under 1.5, should I do a play now start to clear the settings before starting a game without that module ?

Every time I see this discussion the question rolls around in my head: why are there hidden options?

Some are debug options (disable religions ones), some are scenario options, some are essential for gameplay (No Espionage) and some are just plain unbalanced (unrestrictive leaders, choose religion on founding) :p

No, as they do not add or change gameoptions.

Like Jemon said... Some are default BtS options that were removed (some of which are hardcoded in the exe for some reason, meaning we can't completely remove them), including Unrestricted Leaders, Choose Religion, Espionage.

Others are options from FfH that we did not want, but may use in future scenarios. No X Religion, No Events, etc, are among these.

Ah, I see.

But what if a player doesn't want a certain religion? Like White Hand or something...or Cult of the Dragon (lol.)

Then you can reactivate the options easily (Assets/XML/GameInfo/GameOptionInfos) by opening the file, finding the option you want, and setting bHidden to 0.

We won't unhide them, as they produce clutter and cause balance issues we don't want to deal with; The mod is designed for those religions to be available.
