When I look at some of the "Play Times" indicated in the HOF list of games, I wonder how accurate they are. For example - SirPleb's top scoring game on Sid level says that the "Play Time" was 432:32:46. Does that mean SirPleb actually spent 432 hours playing that game, or, was the game just left running for 24 hours a day for 18 days which equals 432 hours?

The stat is the amount of time Civ was running for with that game loaded. That means that it includes time when the player is away from the game for whatever reason. I suspect quite a bit of that 432 hours was spent playing the game though. Maybe even longer as a lot of planning went into that game, not all of which would be while he's playing, so not reflected in the time. Have you read his writeup? He does answer this question >> here << (sort of).

I recall in one of Zerkzee's (sp?) threads when he took someone else's game and brought it from a loss to a win, where a single turn could take 3 hours to play! So yes, I can see his, or anyones', game taking that long.

Plus some of us play while doing other things as well. A lot of times I am watching TV and playing Civ at the same time. The dogs may need to go out or I'm having a discussion with my wife. I've had a few times where I starting doing something else and forgot the game was running.

Either way it is entirely possible and I bow to someone who could spend that much time on a single game.

It's easy when you're driven by a goal! ;)

I find that Milked games that take hundreds of hours are more fun than the very fast Conquest Tiny victories, which rely so much on luck....they put me to sleep even though the games take less than 5 minutes! :crazyeye:

Dianthus may have checked this out already but I thought SirPleb estimated he spent about 200 hours on that Sid Milk Run.....which actually is pretty quick!

I find that I feel a twinge of regret when I reach the closing stages of a long milk run...but then I get seven tons of pollution in 2042 and I'm cursing at the screen again.

For me, each turns could easily take 3 hours on a huge map on Sid during the mid of the Middle age to the mid of the Industrial age. It happens to me all the time...just pick up the mouse and begin to move some workers, but hours have just gone by in the real world.

I just checked, and my last 10 turns in LK87 succession game (huge world map) took 21 hours, 49 mins.. an average 2hours 11 mins per turn.. and 8 of those turns was in anarchy :p

Do any of you save your game while playing? I have now had two games turned down for consideration because of too many saves... I can't put too many three hour stints together for a milk run and my playing/saving style contravenes the rules... So how do you do it?

I usually save several times per turn.. you cant really have too many saves.. its how many times you reload the game from a save that will get you turned down...

AFAIK, you can save the game as many times as you want to.

I'll often save it at the end of turn, to activate CRpMapStat................in case a city is about to riot! ;)

There would be very few occasions when you would need to load from the same save twice.......the only times I can think of would be:
1. Domination Limit exceeded
2. System crash.

And, in both those cases, you would have to have just started a playing session!...........Maybe 2 loads from the same file is against the [unwritten] Rules! :groucho:
